I’m glad my brain hasn’t slowed down too much, yet. I love doing the morning crossword puzzle and keeping score as I play along with Wheel of Fortune and then Jeopardy. I seldom beat the winner of the night though. But, I get to learn new words and they say that’s good for our brains. I get to learn from my new medical professional too. My regular doctor turned me over to his latest nurse practitioner and I guess he knew what he was doing. It’s neat that someone calls me from the office if one of my recent tests numbers are too high. I recently learned that I am now no longer diabetic … but pre-diabetic. Yay! I did tell her I wanted to get rid of some pounds and she instructed me to just drink water when I had the urge to snack. Well, it worked! I lost two pounds the first day. So, I was able to get into a pair of pants I enjoy doing my daily run in and they fit perfectly now.
I do enjoy walking and it’s neat to see vehicles in the Henry Perfoming Arts Center parking lot that I don’t recognize. I saw a Hyundai Genesis last week. Afterwards I came home and looked it up on the internet and the one I’m admiring is a 2016. I find it amazing the teens going to Advanced classes have newer cars than any of us on Henry Street. Some of them wave as I stand outside admiring the rolling car show when they leave school.
I saw a Prius as I headed into Publix and asked the owner if it could get on the interstate. He stopped and gave me a neat class on how dependable the vehicle is, that it can accelerate well, and how much his students like it. I guess that will be my next vehicle IF I ever need a replacement for Miss Dependable Camry. I’m glad cars are still part of my fun. I had another joy the other day as I started leaving Publix and saw a gorgeous black Datsun Z, maybe a 1973. It had some age on it, a dent on the right rear fender but sounded WONDERFUL as it eased by me. I can’t wait for Summit to come out with their calendar of car shows and I’ll check back with them next week so I can plan more fun. I love strolling through all the vehicles, and of course talking to their interesting owners too.
I had more fun this week, at church. I already knew we were going to have more sweet souls become members and enjoyed going through the words in the Methodist hymnal as we listened to them take their vows and then repeated our vows too. I’m glad to hear that one of our hard working Methodists will be teaching Sunday school classes for the early teens. As we left the sanctuary we were able to thank them, smile, and be joyful to enlarge our congregation with some great folks. Part of my Sunday morning joy is hearing our amazing pianist as she plays Mt. Bethel’s baby grand piano. I’m thankful that she is part of our congregation plus acts as our choir director too.
I still love reading ALL my newspapers, and solving some of the puzzles in them too. I seldom can figure out the picture in “Henry as It Was” but it is neat to see others can and also to learn more about Henry County. That’s one thing I like about Facebook; posts of Henry County from the past including former co-workers and lots more. That’s another fun thing to me, looking back and seeing heroes from days gone by. The Police shack was neat plus the former police officers we admired. I’m glad I live here and am thankful for ALL the fun we have!
