I always check Facebook after I’ve had my morning Folgers and finished Bible study. I like to see familiar faces, and recently saw a post that showed me, along with other First National Bank employees. Some of our skirts were a tad short, but it was interesting to see so many sweet faces and I actually still know most of their names too. Then I saw the scary Daytona 500 crash at the end of the race, but I did see, via my laptop, that the driver will survive.
I do surveys on my little HP and earn points that I eventually pass on to family members. I’ve been a Nielsen scanner for years and let those points build up until I need a small appliance or other household item. I have received a gazebo, inflatable mattresses, and I still use The Boss to vacuum my carpet (It’s a very dependable Eureka). Not too long ago, my little scanner quit working and I couldn’t scan all the groceries and other purchases until the replacement arrived. First I had to box up the failed one though, and they sent me a FedEx sticker so I didn’t have to pay for the return, just dropped it off at Walgreens. Nielsen did credit my account for the missed two weeks I couldn’t scan too.
I also have a little fun every day solving quizzes. I build up points for that too and if I’m lucky, maybe I’ll win the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstake. I doubt that, but it is interesting doing the quizzes and seeing how much I’ve learned over life. I get most of them right, especially the ones about baby boomers. I know what a TV dinner is since I used to keep a supply, but never read the nutrition numbers. I’ll bet they would fail my current nutritional requirements. I can usually name all the car models, most of the older movie stars and different state mammals, animals, and sometimes can identify places around America too. I loved doing the one on beaches and, of course, aced that test! I know most of the presidents, and other celebrities also and scored 100 on several food quizzes too. I saw vintage items and recognized them; the jukebox, first televisions and transistor radios. It was a nice little trip back in time for me! When they were fashionable, I wore bell bottom jeans, and I still have some of my 45 and 78 records. Someone stole the 8 track player out of my 65 Chevelle and eventually I discarded all of those big containers of my favorite music from the fifties and sixties. I no longer have any of those little cassettes either but still have lots of CDs. I enjoy listening to Alan Jackson’s Precious Memories on the way to church and back on Sunday mornings. I love the great Forever Country combo of my favorite country music singers and of course Dolly Parton sings the final notes. I don’t own that CD, instead I just go to YouTube, and again, via my laptop, enjoy listening to it. And, speaking of Alan Jackson, I learned something new about him today doing a search, of course. It turns out he’s been running in the Peachtree Road Race since 1993! I didn’t know that celebrities ran in that neat annual amazement.
I saw some of Alan Jackson’s car collection too and was again amazed via my laptop. He owns a strange looking vehicle that can run on the road, or in the ocean. The name of that vehicle is named Amphicar! I thought I knew almost everything car-related but, I’m still learning. Hey, it is good for this senior brain – to keep learning. The last thing I love about my morning Facebook is I know who to pray for, thanks to the latest posts. It is neat that I can look up old Times columns too. PTL!
