Golfing for Success, Inc. is a local non-profit program that looks to “promote and guide area youth and high school senior golfers to perform on the next level of golf.”
“Our main goal is to provide positive youth development, mentorship and skill training to establish success on the next level of golf and develop a better way of life,” said Tyrone Spaulding, founder and director of Golfing for Success, Inc.
Golfing for Success, Inc. is not just a golf program. Along with accommodating each player’s availability to train during the week, the coaches and mentors work tirelessly to ensure that the participants are getting the help they need both on and off the course.
“If we see some kids that are struggling academically, we do offer that help. We also make sure we prepare them for the ACT and SAT in that recruitment age,” said Spaulding.
For the senior golfers in the program, it is crunch time. As they are seeking acceptance into area colleges and their golf programs, they are working to decrease their scores for better chances in the college recruitment process.
Of the two high school seniors on the team, one is just beginning the application process. Another senior, Grant Futch, already has three college scholarship offers and is hoping for more.
In helping participants “develop their golf skills for the next level” during their time in the program, Golfing for Success, Inc. hosts various summer camp programs for different age groups and skill levels.
“Through the years, we have done different camps. Sometimes we base everything on beginning fundamentals,” said Spaulding. “Sometimes we do advanced camps for students that want that next level. We also have camps for seniors.”
Golfing for Success, Inc. also works with adults and military veterans to improve their golfing skills.
Anthony Collins got involved with the program after his daughter, Ariel Collins, began playing at age four. He continues to serve as a coach in the program.
“[Tyrone] taught [Ariel] the basics and fundamentals of golf and got us off to a fantastic start. He gives you the foundation, shows you the building blocks and gives you a blueprint to further your knowledge of golf and help the kids further their involvement in the game,” said Anthony. “As a parent, he gave me the confidence to get my coaching license.”
“[Golf] is fun and is a game you can play for the rest of your life. It became a family activity,” said Anthony. “Our entire family is a golfing family. Not all of us golf, but all of us are involved in some type of capacity in our daughter’s golfing career.”
Golfing for Success, Inc. is a program that the whole family can enjoy, agreed Spaulding. “We train golfers from age four to 74.”
Spaulding believes that Golfing for Success, Inc. will help students in the community improve on the necessary skills to play the sport and to foster their overall desire to play the sport.
“There are more kids in Henry County and surrounding areas that have the skills to play golf and they just need an opportunity. Going into this program would give kids the opportunity to seek golf as an industry and not just a profession,” said Spaulding. “You have to know the game to get jobs in the golf industry.”
Golfing for Success, Inc. hopes to begin an indoor training program in the near future, expanding the overall training that is offered to their golfers.
