Dear Editor,
I live in the Autumn Lakes subdivision near the Kroger Shopping Center on Jonesboro Road.
My subdivision and River Trace subdivision are not in the City of McDonough, but the homeowners here have had to endure one zoning battle after another with the City over the years. As county residents, the Henry County Board of Commissioners (BOC) are supposed to help us and have, in the past, with our zoning fights with the City.
But now the BOC has decided to change that historic position. The owner of the 62+ acres along McDonough Parkway does not like his current zoning of single-family homes and wants to annex into the City and put in apartments and townhomes. The BOC objected in 2018 to this annexation but now has decided to allow the owner to annex into the City and put in his high-density development.
This action will harm the existing community. Besides a drop in property values, crime and congested roads will increase.
The BOC votes Tuesday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m.
Sincerely,
Steve Stavro
