The local fight against a deadly disease is poised to continue in 2020.
The Alzheimer’s Association and Edward Jones are working to get the word out about the third annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The event is set for September 19, at Alexander Park West in McDonough. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the walk to follow.
Elizabeth Bradley, senior branch office administrator for Edward Jones Financial Advisor, David Dodd, said the walk is essential in raising awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease.
“Obviously we’re always looking for more community involvement,” she said. “We are trying to build our committee to make the walk happen right now, and we need as much community involvement as possible with that.”
Support for the walk, now in its third year, has been building since it was introduced in 2018. Bradley said 429 people participated in last year’s walk, raising $44,595.
“We have a goal of $55,000 this year,” she said.
Seventy-seven percent of the funds generated by the walk, she said, will go toward Alzheimer’s Disease care, support, research, awareness and advocacy. Nineteen percent will be re-invested back into fundraising, and the remaining four percent will go toward administrative costs, said Bradley.
While the walk is still several months away, Bradley said signing up early for the event will help to ensure a greater opportunity for fundraising.
