 Joanne Shaw Close

  Joanne Shaw Close, age 81, of Tampa, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. Joanne was born in McDonough, Ga., to the late Blumer and Winnie Shaw. She is predeceased by her husband: John Close; her brothers: TJ and Ronald Shaw; her sister: Cindy Shaw; her nephew: Jeff Shaw; and her niece: Jennifer Gaganis.

  Joanne is survived by her brother: Bud (Noreen) Shaw of Garfield, Ark.; niece: Janice (Bill) Gordon of Tampa, Fla.; nephews: Joseph (Martha) Shaw of Rome, Ga., and Kendal (Donna) Shaw of Tampa, Fla.; and a host of great nieces and nephews.

  A graveside service and internment will occur in the Spring of 2020 at New Hope Cemetery in Locust Grove, Ga.

James L. Brown

  Mr. James L. “Red” Brown passed away on December 9, 2019. Red was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and retired from Low Temp Industries in Jonesboro, Ga., with 47 years of service. April 21st of each year is set aside in the City of Jonesboro and proclaimed as “Red Brown Day.” He enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, Grace Bible class, his family and was a member at Glen Haven Baptist Church in McDonough, Ga. He traveled extensively with Betty over the past 40 years to places around the world and was truly a devoted Christian, husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by parents: Ernest M.  and  Annie Lee Brown, siblings: Hurley Brown and Willis Brown.

  He is survived by his wife of 41 years: Betty Brown, daughters: Cheryl Chaffin and husband Donnie and Teresa Freeman, grandchildren: Jennifer Chaffin, James Chaffin, Houston (Carlie) Freeman, III, Mark Chaffin and Justin Freeman, great-grandchildren: Houston Freeman, IV and Levi Freeman, siblings: Mary Breed, Dorothy (Charles) Cargile and Tommy “Sambo” (Ann) Brown, and many nieces and nephews.

  Funeral Services were held on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Ralph Easterwood and Pastor Stan Berrong officiating. Interment followed at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family received friends on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the funeral home. James Edward Ware, Sr.

  James Edward Ware, Sr., age 73, of Hampton, Ga., passed away on December 10, 2019.

  Funeral services for Mr. Ware will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Haisten Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. E. W. Alvina Lucille Livery

  Alvina Lucille Livery, age 73, of Hampton, Ga., passed away on December 11, 2019.

Sandra Leah Peck

  Sandra Leah Peck, age 82, of McDonough, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. She was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to the late Roland Charles Hopwood and Mabel Carol Hopwood. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Roland “Sonny” C. Hopwood, Jr., and Elizabeth “Betty” Davis.

  Mrs. Peck is survived by her husband, Gregory; children, Jim Belliveau, Jr., of Ruskin, Fla., Colleen Belliveau, of Lake Worth, Fla., Cheryl (Chipper) Smith, of Orange City, Fla., Michelle (Anat Bob) Belliveau, Ft. Myers, Fla.; grandchildren, Andrew Belliveau, Amber (Leonidas) Hitas, Amy (Kenneth) Guenst, Tyler (Carla) Foulds, Ashley (Cori) Foulds, Aidan Belliveau; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Barry Hopwood, of Stafford, Va.; her Jonesboro VFW family. She loved baking, shopping, knitting and above all she loved her family and friends.

Richard Roberts

  Major Richard “Joe” Roberts (Ret.), age 86, of Stockbridge, Ga., passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019. He was born in Conyers, Ga., to the late David Francis Roberts and Rosa Kate Roberts. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Binion Roberts.

  Major Roberts is survived by his children, Sharon Roberts, Tony (Debbie) Roberts, Mike (Sherri) Roberts; niece, Cathy Cowan; nephew Robin Reid; grandchildren, Rich and Ashley Roberts, Katie Roberts, Mathew Roberts, Jesse Roberts; great-grandchildren, Garrett Roberts, and Avery Roberts.

  Funeral services were held Monday, December 16, 2019 at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Pastor Mike McGuire officiating. Entombment followed at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
