All grown

Well, no more sleepovers or trunk or treats, etc. for my grandkids. The youngest (Tyler) now has a job and, in January, he’ll start classes to become an aircraft mechanic. His sister, Kaylee, works on the UGA campus between her classes, and of course, it’s a technical computer job. Our oldest two grandkids have established the careers they wanted all their lives and are very happy doing their favorite things. Duel is a computer-whiz and he works in security for a large store. Melissa is an occupational therapist, who helps people heal. Her younger brother Matthew is also a computer techie. I find it interesting that my dad’s brother helped start that occupation way back in the sixties! After he retired, the companies he’d helped many times reached out to him and he became a traveling assistant to their firms.

I missed hanging out with my Newnan grandkids, except for barbecues at their home and also attending sports events too. But I had a lot of fun with the rest of them. We went to the Atlanta Zoo, Dauset Trails, Noah’s Ark and lots of trips to Indian Springs and High Falls. I enjoyed taking them to the Performing Arts Center just across the street and saw SO many wonderful plays via the Henry Players. We always enjoyed the trick or treat fun going on around the Square, and then trunk or treat at Mt. Bethel. I wouldn’t have had nearly as much fun without my wonderful grandchildren! It’s neat that they all know much more than I do about telephones and the internet too. I often joke they were born with a mouse in their hand, but they don’t use a mouse anymore. I had a taillight go out on the Camry and couldn’t figure out how to install the replacement I’d bought, so I asked my mechanical grandson and it was done almost immediately. Somehow the size of the pages on my laptop shrunk and once again my techie granddaughter walked me through the correction. And when I wasn’t able to log on recently, I called a grandson and he walked me through the process on the phone. It’s amazing what they know, and can do.

Now all of my grandkids have a driver’s license and their own vehicle. Time really does fly when we’re having fun! I wouldn’t take anything for the trips to state parks, Six Flags, all the Disney rides and water parks we experienced. We had a great time at Dollywood with our daughter though, and lots of fun at Disney with our three sons. I am SO blessed with my wonderful family and all the joy they have brought me over the years. And I wonder, what’s next? I bought all the grandkids a red bracelet at Walgreens which helps feed children with most of the funds. I will pass them out at our pre-Thanksgiving feast. I know I’ve mentioned that we have a Tech fan and two Georgia fans in the family, so after a disastrous game one Thanksgiving, we moved that family celebration back a week. We do have one younger child at our gatherings, and she’s our great-granddaughter Serenity  (thank you Airelle!) It’s amazing what she knows too, via the internet and computers. I am proud of them all but still amazed at how they’ve become adults so soon.

We’ve all grown at bit at Mt. Bethel too.  Most of us have grey hair, well I color mine, but, guilty as charged with the signs of aging. I’m glad we have a dedicated pianist/choir director who keeps us growing in the musical world. Our pastor has an awesome singing voice, plus I enjoy her sermons and prayers too. I began attending there in 1959 at age 17, so I’ve grown up too. Again I say, I wouldn’t take anything for my journey here.
