After elections in all four of Henry County’s cities, one city council will stay the same while the others will have different looks come January.
The McDonough voters chose the status quo, as incumbents won re-election in all three races. Craig Elrod won the District 3 race by a 2-1 margin over Janice Scotchman (520-266), while Kamali Varner retained her District 4 seat with an even more sizable win over Teresa Bradley Wheeler (212-71). Benjamin Pruett won a three-way race to return to his at-large post, getting 642 votes to prevail over Carla Dennis (411) and Brandon Robinson (360).
McDonough is the only city divided into districts. All other council races were at-large, with the top three vote-getters in each race declared the winner.
Only one incumbent won re-election in Hampton. That was Henry Byrd, the top finisher in an eight-person field with 661 votes. The next two were Marty Meeks (648) and Mary Ann Mitcham (545), two former council members who are returning to office.
Incumbent Ann Tarpley (466) came in fourth in the voting, while Elton Brown chose not to seek re-election. Rounding out the field were Sherry Ann Chaney (442), Dexter Cladd (401), Monica Davis (115) and Adrian Stroud (105).
The only mayoral race was in Locust Grove, where Robert Price was unopposed and will begin a third term in January. Among the council candidates, incumbent Carlos Greer (431) received the most votes in a five-person field.
Greer will be the only incumbent returning to office, as challengers Rod Shearouse (276) and Rudy Breedlove (265) thwarted Otis Hammock’s (264) bid for a third term in a very tight race. Michael Reid Brackett Jr. (160) rounded out the field. Shearouse and Breedlove will succeed Hammock and Vernon Ashe, who chose not to run again.
Eight candidates ran for the three available seats on the Stockbridge City Council, with challenger Yolanda Barber (817) coming out on top, just ahead of incumbent John Blount (815). The other two incumbents finished 3-4, with Elton Alexander (694) just ahead of Neat Robinson (690). Rounding out the field were Nathan Banks (493), Cherie Hollis (460), Arthur Christian (448), Kenneth McFarland (366) and Jacqueline Blalock (215).
All election results listed on the county website as of Wednesday afternoon were states as “unofficial and incomplete,” although past history indicates it is unlikely any of the numbers will change.
