Join Georgia Archives’ Conservator Sigourney Smuts and Assistant Conservator Tracey Johnson on the Georgia Archives’ Facebook page, Monday, November 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Ask a Conservator Day.
On this date, conservators around the world are participating in Ask a Conservator Day. This is a significant day: on November 4, 1966, the Arno River flooded Florence, Italy, damaging priceless cultural heritage. However, in response to the catastrophe, incredible efforts were made, and are still being undertaken, to conserve the items impacted by the flood.
Ask a Conservator Day follows in the spirit of that international collaboration and exchange of knowledge. They will be acknowledging and celebrating the growth of the field inspired by the response to the flood by creating an opportunity for people to engage with conservators on social media.
On November 4, ask conservators Smuts and Johnson questions and follow the hashtag #AskA Conservator for others who are participating.
What do you want to know about being a conservator? How do conservators care for collections? Start asking questions now and Archives’ conservators Smuts and Johnson will answer them. On the Georgia Archives’ Facebook page, post questions @georgia archives, or comment directly on our Facebook page, and use #AskAConservator.
