Henry County is excited to receive new voting equipment that voters will be able to use in the March 24, 2020 Presidential Preference Primary.
Dominion Voting Systems was chosen by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to implement their verified paper ballot systems to be used in upcoming Georgia elections.
“Election officials and voters alike can be assured they are using the most modern, accessible and security-focused system on the market today, with paper ballots for every vote cast to ease auditing and ensure confidence in results,” said said Dominion CEO John Poulous.
These new ballot systems will replace the current touchscreen direct-recording electronic voting machines that have been in use since 2002. As those machines have an eight year life expectancy, this change is 17 years overdue.
The new machines feature larger LED screens, meaning more space between ballot options, with the additional safeguard of a print ballot that voters can review prior to submitting their votes.
“After the voters place their votes on the screen, the ballots will print, voters can review their choices, and then they scan the ballot that drops into a ballot box after it is done scanning,” said Tina Lunsford, Director of Elections and Voter Registration.
Additionally, the cost for the new machines will not be coming out of county funds. Rather, the state is footing the bill.
Henry County will receive 650 pieces of the new voting equipment, up from the 400 pieces currently in use, which is liable to speed up the voting process.
The Henry County Voters Registration office will be open every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Voters are welcome to come try out the new voting machines on a demonstration ballot.
