The Hampton City Council voted at its September 10 regular meeting to postpone action regarding the potential annexation and rezoning of roughly 43 acres on South Hampton Road.
Four separate ordinances were considered for two adjoining pieces of property, with second readings on the annexation requests and first readings on the rezoning requests. The sites were listed as 2.22 acres located at 540 South Hampton Road and 41.01 acres located at 0 South Hampton Road.
The vote on all four was unanimous. The items will be considered again after a scheduled community meeting on the issue.
In other business, first readings were approved for ordinances amending guidelines and regulations for planned development districts; design standards for front porches and stoops; landscape requirements; mixed-use districts; placement and displaying of signs; tree protection and planting; and zoning definitions, particularly the definition of a subdivision as it applies to various city services and development standards.
The council voted to adopt a resolution creating a new travel policy for elected officials, with the mayor breaking a tie for a 4-3 vote.
A second reading of an ordinance amending downtown parking regulations was approved unanimously. Also approved 6-0 was the first reading of an ordinance amending an existing code section to classify overgrown weeds and grass as a nuisance.
