Early voting for the November elections will be available an extra week in Stockbridge.

The county elections office amended the 2019 voting schedule to include early voting at the Stockbridge Municipal Court Building October 14-November 1, according to city officials. The City Council approved the amended scheduled by unanimous vote at its September 9 regular meeting.

This means the first week of early voting will have open polls at two locations: Stockbridge and the election office in McDonough. In previous years the first week of early voting was in McDonough only.

Both locations will be open October 14-18 and 21-25 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. A special Saturday voting session October 26 will include the same hours and the other three early voting sites: Fairview Library, Locust Grove Library, and the Fortson Library in Hampton.

Voting at all five locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. the week of October 28-November 1.

The council vote included approval of the estimated $14,000 needed for the city elections under the new schedule.

In other business, the council approved a bid award of $2,120,000 to Pellicano Construction Company for the construction of the new public works facility. That vote was also unanimous.

The work includes “demolition of three buildings and associated utilities; removal of asphalt and concrete pavement; and construction of a one-story building with office spaces, a training room, and conference room,” according to a city staff report.

The new building will be located near the current facility on Taylor Drive, just off East Atlanta Road across from Gardner Park. Funding for the project will come from the city’s SPLOST budget.

The council conducted public hearings on two rezoning requests regarding proposed construction of hotels east of 160 Country Club Drive and at 2725 Patrick Henry Parkway. Both applicants are seeking a change from C-2 to C-3 (heavy commercial). In both cases the public hearings were continued until the council’s September 24 workshop meeting.
