Mrs. Lorraine Lindsey was recently recognized and honored on her 97th birthday by the Locust Grove Woman’s Club. “Miss” Lorraine has been a faithful member of the club for 37 years. She was elected club president the year she joined, after that she became the group’s treasurer, a position she still holds.
Lorraine has served Locust Grove and Henry County in many capacities. From 2000 to 2011 Lorraine served as mayor of Locust Grove. She holds the distinction of being the first female mayor in Henry County. In her three terms, Lorraine was an integral part in planning and implementing many projects. Water and sewerage improvements, the widening of Bill Gardener Parkway and the four county event centers are among some of these projects.
In addition, Lorraine and her late husband, Jake (CJ) Lindsey, have been faithful members of Locust Grove United Methodist Church.
“The Woman’s Club has been so blessed that Lorraine chose to be an active member. The club was formed in 1914 by a group of women from the Baptist and Methodist Churches who saw many needs of the community. The club continued with community service and in 1917 joined the National Federation of Women’s Clubs. This provided the influence of the group to extend to the state and national levels. The support of the Locust Grove Woman’s Club goes to many projects such as public and private school involvement, public library programs, senior citizen support, food bank and Haven House donations among others,” said Peggy Gau, club member.
Locust Grove Woman’s Club issued the following statement -”Lorraine Lindsey is a true treasure to Locust Grove and beyond as she continues to be a very active and vital force in all of her endeavors. Happy Birthday Lorraine, and may you have many, many more blessed years as you are truly a blessing to others.”
Locust Grove Woman’s Club meets at 11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month at 64 Club Drive in Locust Grove. They invite all women in Locust Grove and the surrounding areas to attend.
