The Henry County Library System is unveiling a new program next month that will include extended operating hours for one of its branches the first Friday of each month.

The program, appropriately titled “First Fridays,” will include specific themed events but also allow for full library services at the host branch, which will be open until 9 p.m. that evening instead of the usual 6 p.m. Regular circulation of library materials as well as computer usage will be available during this time.

The fun will kick off September 6 at the McDonough Public Library with a Superhero Academy theme. There will be crafts, stories and games throughout the evening. Children will have the opportunity to sit in on superhero story time, and teens will be able to create comic strips and superhero magnets. There will also be team-building games for everyone.

The Cochran Public Library will host the October 4 event with a theme based on the classic ‘90s Disney film “Hocus Pocus.” Fans of the movie will be allowed to test their knowledge with a special trivia game.

The next two events will be all about Harry Potter. The Fairview Public Library will host the fun November 1 with a Harry Potter Night complete with trivia and other activities. The Fortson Public Library event scheduled for December 6 will be a Harry Potter-themed Yule Ball. Costumes are encouraged as both First Fridays promise to be “magical nights,” according to library officials.

For more information about any of these events, contact the Henry County Library System at 678-432-5353 or connect on Facebook @HenryLibrary.
