One Henry County student, Hailey Craig, placed 1st in the local Farm Bureau scholarship contest receiving $1,000 from the office on Racetrack Road. Hailey was also one of seven 2nd place winners at the state level receiving an additional $1,500 from the “Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.” Hailey graduated from Ola High School and has plans to pursue a major in Animal Health. She will begin her studies at Berry College in the fall. After realizing the shortage of large animal veterinarians in Henry County Hailey is seeking to become a mixed animal veterinarian to help fill that growing need.

Henry County Farm Bureau awarded, Lauren Moyer, the 2nd place scholarship. Lauren attended Dutchtown High School and will enter Fort Valley State University in the fall to pursue a degree in Food Science and Technology. Lauren is looking to focus on the security, sustainability, and safety of the food production industry, especially in light of a growing world population and need.

Rebekah Martin, of Hampton High School, won the 3rd place scholarship. Rebekah plans to attend Georgia Southern in the fall where she will be studying nutrition, food safety and preparation. Alarmed by the large number of diabetics and those with heart disease in the U.S. Rebekah wants to be instrumental in promoting life-style changes with diets that offer optimum health benefits.

All three of these applicants have shown to be outstanding students earning high grade point averages and achieving many academic accolades. Each is involved in sports through their schools and all have proved to be excellent citizens in their community, as they are all involved in some type of volunteer work, sacrificing their time and talent to benefit others.
