Finally, I have allowed myself to accept help with keeping my home clean and neat. I have fought against this help as it would prove I am too old to care for my home. Too old, or too tired, or too busy. Whatever the case, Tiffany and her team (herself and two other helpers) arrived at our home, early on Monday morning bearing mops, brooms, vacuums, and a utility carrier with many, many bottles and other miscellaneous cleaning items. The crew explained they only used Eco-friendly products. Well that was impressive. They were like a well-organized ant colony.
I had opted for several years to turn down any help with the cleaning services and care of our home. Now I can look at it with different eyes. And, I am so happy to have help now by these professional ladies. At my age, I really could not do all the things that I did years ago. For so many years, I was sure I was only 30-some-years-old, but my body belied that.
Many years ago, I worked Monday through Friday and on the weekends I could accomplish cleaning, laundry, shopping and any other items that needed doing. I was invincible! I did pride myself on being able to do all things during my at- home time. As I am one of the old fashion people, I have been told, who needed no help with anything, new items could be added to my schedule without any problem. I was proud of my life. Of course, my children were out of the nest, so then there was only my husband and myself to please. Life was a wonderful time. And, I was up to the chores. This system worked well for us. He was in charge of the outside yard and vegetation and his garage. I took care of the inside of the house as I wished it to be done.
As time went by, my body was not keeping up with my brain. As I still thought I was thirty something, some things seemed to get done more slowly, and some kept “waiting for next week,” to finish. But I endured. Finally, when talking to husband, friends and concerned children, I realized my knees and back were not 30 something any longer either. They talked me into getting help. I caved in and went in search of help.
Online, I found a site of local people who did all kinds of work. So, I emailed three of the businesses who answering my request for cleaning help and set up interviews with the ones I thought might fit. When Tiffany walked into my house, I immediately knew she was the one, so I cancelled the other two companies. Tiffany and her crew of two started to clean my house in places I did not know needed cleaning. She had her main helper (also named Tiffany) and they took over and did their job. They spent the entire day working at my home. They were so efficient and polite that I just knew we were in for a treat.
After talking to Tiffany for a while, I discovered that because her business was cleaning for others all week long, she had house help for herself and her family. I guess I never thought of a helper needing a helper, but I was wrong on so many matters, it seemed. I hope her helper is nearly as good as my helper is. However, only the first Tiffany would be taking care of my home every two weeks. I guess the deep clean she gave our place had taken care of my cleaning errors, and the second Tiffany was no longer needed. I did not ask if Tiffany number 2 was cleaning My Tiffany number 1’s house. I will have to look into that.
A few days after they left, I called her and told her how pleased we were with her work. Now Tiffany will come every two weeks to keep our house spic and span. I mean, her deep cleaning not only cleaned the usual areas, but included ceiling fans, windows, and even polished pictures. Nothing was left unfinished. They were such sweet people, that I could not have chosen any better than Tiffany. She and her team cleaned and polished everything. I was even careful when I entered a room for a few days. I did vacuum my kitchen floor and some carpets after a week, but I am so anxious to have her here again next week.
Now my next problem is, what to do with my spare time? Surely I can read, as most of my friends and family advised, knowing I love reading, Or maybe I can join some senior citizen’s group, or go shopping, (I hate shopping and always have). Maybe volunteer to help others, but as of yet, I still continue to write. I can write more articles, but have not found any new or different topics to write about. If you have any suggestions, please let me know by emailing editor@henrycountytimes.com. Maybe I will write another novel. Not that my first two novels have brought me any financial satisfaction or fame, but maybe a third book will do better. At least I have time now, so can’t use that excuse any longer. But whatever I decide to do, I will have a clean house to do it in and lots of extra time. Thank goodness, I finally solved the helper point early enough to enjoy the next phase of my life. Now I can become a world famous author. I will keep you advised, but don’t hold your breath.
