Communities in Schools to host Parent Expo

Communities In Schools (CIS) of Georgia in Henry County will host its 8th Annual Parent Expo, Saturday, July 20 at the Jason T. Harper Event Center in Heritage Park, McDonough. The Expo is designed to pull together Henry County Schools representatives and county resources in one place, on one day, to answer questions and demonstrate their value to hundreds of Henry County parents.

A new addition to the event this year is the partnership with Henry First, a non-profit whose principal activity is to reduce the burdens of government by serving as a vehicle through which county departments can apply for and/or receive grant funding and other donations. Henry First will be leading the effort to include a public works exhibit.

Among the other nonprofit organizations participating in the Expo are: Southern Grace Hospice, Southern Crescent Behavioral Health System, Blessed Hands Home Care, and McIntosh Trail Community Service Board.

Faith-based organizations and private companies are also contributing by collecting notebooks, writing tools, backpacks, and other items for the Parent Expo School Supply Drive. Among the participants are Tabernacle of Praise and CapSouth Wealth Management. The collective goal is for 1,200 backpacks filled with supplies to be distributed at the event. Carmax and Connecting Henry have signed on as volunteers to help with the effort.

Nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and philanthropic companies who would like to support this event should contact  Parent Expo event organizer, Crystal McCarthy, by email or phone: cmccarthy@cisgeorgia.org, 404-897-2950.

Henry County residents are urged to join the community effort to get behind Communities In Schools in their mission to give all students the tools and resources they need to succeed in school and in life. An online fundraiser has been set up for individuals who wish to purchase a backpack and supplies for a student in need: www.classy.org/ campaign/8th-annual-parent-expo-back-to-school-drive-for-henry-county-students/c234966.

Proof of Henry County residency is the only requirement for a family to attend.
