Stockbridge officials announced last week that Municipal Court Judge Matthew McCord was recently appointed to a pair of state committees.
McCord was appointed by Georgia Chief Justice Harold D. Melton to serve on the Georgia Ad Hoc Committee to Prevent Sexual Harassment in the Judicial Branch of Government as well as the Judicial Council’s Strategic Planning Committee. According to a statement, “Chief Justice Melton has charged Judge McCord and others with ‘gathering research, examining and evaluating best practices, and encouraging all classes of Georgia courts and court councils to establish policies to prevent sexual harassment.’”
“When I consider how fortunate I am to have been asked by the Chief Justice to serve on these committees, I am just so grateful,” said McCord. “I believe that we are doing good things for all of Georgia, and it is so good, not only to be a judge from Stockbridge, but also from Henry County, and to be able to serve in a way that continues to move our judiciary and our state in a very positive direction. My term as president of the Council of Municipal Court Judges expires this summer, and I am honored to be able to continue to serve in new ways.”
McCord has been a personal injury and criminal defense attorney with a McDonough practice for a number of years, after previously working as a prosecutor. He was sworn in as judge in Stockbridge in 2014. In 2016 he was the sole Republican candidate for district attorney before dropping out of the race in September, leaving eventual winner Darius Pattillo as the only candidate in the race by election day.
