The McDonough City Council took action on two rezoning requests and one annexation and its May 2 workshop meeting.

The annexation was for 62.21 acres along Lake Dow Road near Hwy. 81 and Airline and McGarity roads. The site was rezoned from RA (residential agricultural) to R-75 (single-family residential) after the vote to annex. The project is known as the Blue River Development or Blue River subdivision, according to city staff reports. The votes to annex and rezone were unanimous.

Also rezoned was a 3.59-acre site at 231 Avalon Court, off Avalon Parkway, for Homewood Suites Hotel. The applicant was seeking to consolidate two tracts of land, zone C-2 (central commercial) and C-3 (highway commercial), into a single site zoned C-3 with conditions. The vote was unanimous.

Three items were discussed and then scheduled for public hearings at the council’s May 20 meeting.

An annexation and rezoning request is being considered for a 183.18-acre tract on the east side of Hwy. 155 and the south side of Campground Road. The suggested zoning is R-75, and the existing county zoning is R-1 (single-family residential).

A special use permit has been requested for 19 Keys Ferry Street for a bed and breakfast within the Town Square/Main Street District.

A 7.269-acre site within the Renfroe Business Park on Hwy. 155 is the subject of a rezoning request, with 6.8 acres changing to  M-1 (light industrial) and the other half-acre remaining C-3.   The consent agenda, approved unanimously, included a $19,735.50 allocation for the purchase and installation of system upgrades for the water treatment plant. Also included was $10,943 in audio-visual expenses covered under the city’s SPLOST budget, and a new contract for court ticket software.
