Athletes in the local special-needs community are working to raise money to participate in the Special Olympics.
Henry County Parks and Recreation will conduct a Share the Joy fundraiser April 13 from 9 a.m., to 3 p.m.
The fundraiser helps to pay for registration, uniforms and travel expenses for Special Olympics athletes in the area. Volunteers will collect money at various intersections in McDonough, Locust Grove and Hampton to raise funds for the Henry County Special Olympics, said Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator Terry Nash.
“We have our 200 athletes and unified partners that compete year-round,” said Nash. “We have 95 athletes and partners competing at Summer Games at Emory May 17-19. We hold A spring Share the Joy and one around Christmas. We give out flyers about our program, and continue to get our word out.”
Volunteers are needed to assist with the fundraiser. For more information, call 770-288 7299 or e-mail Terry Brooks at tbrooks@co.henry.ga.us. Donations can be mailed to Henry County Parks and Recreation Special Olympics, 10 Cleveland Street, Locust Grove, GA 30248.
