Animal lovers and advocates are invited to attend the first meeting of the Henry County Animal Initiative.
The event is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. in Room B of the Extension Office, 97 Lake Dow Road in McDonough.
Bobbie Hancock and Jennifer Evans are spearheading the initiative, which will follow a forum-style format. Speakers from inside and outside Henry County will be on hand to discuss the issue of animal overpopulation, said Hancock.
“What we are trying to do is to bring people together that are wanting to help solve the problem of overpopulation of dogs and cats in Henry County,” she said. “It’s been a problem for years, but the increase in human population has increased the population of dogs and cats.”
Hancock said many animals in Henry County don’t have anywhere to go, thus draining the resources of Henry County Animal Control. Other dogs and cats, she said, regularly go hungry or die unnecessarily due to overpopulation.
The meeting will include information regarding Henry County Animal Control, as well as trap-neuter-release procedures for feral cats, and spaying and neutering for both dogs and cats. For additional information call Jennifer Evans at 770-231-9784 or Bobbie Hancock at 404-472-7781.
