Stockbridge is moving forward with plans to build a new public works facility.

The City Council voted at its January 31 workshop meeting to authorize bids up to $3 million for construction. The new building will be near the current facility on Taylor Drive, just off East Atlanta Road across from Gardner Park.

Plans for the project have already been completed and funding is available in the city’s SPLOST budget, according to officials. Completion is expected to take 12-18 months.

The council also voted to accept a $237,017 bid from Coggins Construction Company LLC for replacement of the city’s central line water main. The cost includes money for “30 days of traffic control” while the work takes place, according to city documents.   The exact timetable for the project, which is also funded by the city’s SPLOST, has not yet been determined.
