A gun deal gone bad has resulted in life sentences for two Henry County men.

According to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office, a jury delivered guilty verdicts Friday for 21-year-old Deshaun Middlebrooks and 20-year-old Tory Jaleel Jones on charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Jones was also convicted of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

The jury found that 17-year-old Quintavious Barber met the two men in the parking lot at McDonough’s Sable Chase Apartments Jan. 25, 2017 for a gun trade. Before the deal went down, Middlebrooks opened fire, shooting Barber and Keundre Chappell.

Both victims ran from the scene, while Middlebrooks and Jones fled in a car with Jones driving. Barber reached an apartment before collapsing, and he later died from his injuries. Chappell was treated for a gunshot wound to the hand.

Henry County Superior Court Judge Brian J. Amero sentenced Middlebrooks to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus 25 years. Jones was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole plus five years.

“These are two violent men who were engaged in a gun transaction that turned deadly,” Henry County District Attorney Darius Pattillo said. “We are pleased to get them off the street and bring justice to the victims’ families.”
