Spring vegetable plant sale March 18 in McDonough
Special to The Times
Community Gardens of Henry County is hosting a spring vegetable plant sale on Saturday, March 18, at the Windy Hill Community Garden site at 86 Work Camp Road in McDonough. In addition, gardeners will have a variety of “pass along” plants from their own gardens to sell.

The sale begins at 11 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m. or until sold out. Plants available will include seasonal lettuces and greens appropriate for planting in early spring. Sales are cash or check only.
“Spring is a great time to get started with lettuces,” said acting president Fred Conrad. “Lettuce thrives in the cool temperatures of early spring, when it’s a little too early for tomatoes and other warm season vegetables.”
“The pass along plants are always fun, because gardeners bring things transplanted from their own gardens, and you never know what you might find,” he added. “I am expecting day lilies, Lenten roses, Angel Trumpet, houseplants and lots more surprises.”
Experienced gardeners on hand at the sale can provide advice and instructions for the novice gardener.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit Community Gardens of Henry County, which provides plots for individual gardeners as well as the Helping Harvest garden to feed families in need. Anyone interested in having a plot will be able to tour the Windy Hill garden for plot selection.
A tomato plant sale is planned for April 22 when the weather is warmer and more favorable for planting.
The Windy Hill Garden is adjacent to the Blessings Thrift Store and Windy Hill Park, on the west side of McDonough. Follow signs from Phillips Drive. For more information, call 770-954-0000 or visit henrygardens.org.
