Eileen “Shirley” Lewis
Eileen “Shirley” Lewis (nee Tuttle), age 87, of Atlanta, Ga., passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. She was preceded by her loving husband of 41 years, James Gabriel Lewis (1995), and dear grandchild, David Gabriel Pittman (1993). Born on August 29, 1929 in Niagara Falls, N.Y. to Michael and Ann Tuttle, Shirley, as she was affectionately known, attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Stella Niagara High School where she held the title of “Prom Queen.” Ever spirited, Shirley proposed to her boyfriend, James Gabriel Lewis, whom she met at church and Jim and Shirley were married on June 12, 1954, at the Sacred Heart Church. Together, Shirley and her husband Jim helped to establish the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Stone Mountain, Ga. Shirley was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteering at polling stations during political campaigns, and providing meals for “meals on wheels” services to those in need. Shirley worked diligently alongside her son, James Lewis, at Golden Key International Society for more than 20 years. She had many interests, including playing bridge, playing canasta, square dancing, clogging, exercising and most important, attending daily Mass at St. James Catholic Church in McDonough. Shirley will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother, and a dear, sweet friend.
Memorial services were held with a viewing at the H.M. Patterson & Sons Funeral Home, 1020 Spring Street NW Atlanta, GA 30309 on Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services were held Friday, February 10 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass at The Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30305, with the Rev. Msgr. Francis McNamee and with Principal Celebrant Rev. John Kieran, Concelebrant. A reception followed the Mass held at Kenny Hall located at the Cathedral. Burial was held on Friday after the reception at Fairview Memorial Gardens, 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. H.M. Emmett Louis Dorris, Jr.
Mr. Emmett Louis “Lou” Dorris, Jr., age 78 of Locust Grove, Ga., passed away February 7, 2017. He was born in Springfield, Tenn., to the late Margaret Rebecca Hutchenson Dorris and Emmett Louis Dorris, Sr. and was raised in Detroit and Farmington, Mich. Lou was in concrete sales for over 40 years, having retired from Wayne Davis Concrete. He was a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church. Lou was a great Husband, outstanding Father and exceptional Granddaddy who loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Dorris; sons, Scott and his wife, Kelly Dorris, Todd and his wife, Nianjun Dorris, Lance and his wife, Sonya Dorris; niece, Linda and her husband, Leroy Rogers; grandchildren, Danielle, Jacob, Mckenzie, Larkin, Owen and Kayli Dorris.
Memorial services were conducted on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Locust Grove United Methodist Church. Rev. Floyd Carmack and Rev. Kimbrough Pace officiated. Peggy Webb Banks
Mrs. Peggy Webb Banks, age 82 of McDonough, Ga., passed away February 13, 2017. She was born in Quitman, Ga., to the late Zack Rie and Mary Elizabeth Flowers Webb. Peggy retired after 35 years with Southern Bell and was a volunteer with the AT&T Pioneers. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gardening and her dogs. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Banks, sisters, Gertrude Moye and Lillian Webb, brother, Zack Rie Webb, Jr. and by grandsons, Jason and Jonathan Banks.
Survivors include her children, Gary (Sheri) Banks of Warner Robins, Ronnie (Donna) Banks of Clarkesville, Rusty (Anne) Banks of Ft. Mills, S.C., Bonnie Banks Kirstine of Stockbridge; brother-in-law, Julian (Susan) Banks of Sharpsburg; sister-in-law, JoAnne Martin of Fayetteville; sister, Shirley Brown of Jonesboro; sister-in-law, Susan Wilson of Jonesboro; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; niece, Mary Keahey of Forest Park; nephew, Greg (Jami) Brown of McDonough.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 16, 2017 at noon in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Rev. Al O’Quinn will officiate. Sandy Kemmerling, age 71, of Stockbridge, Ga., died Monday, February 13, 2017. She was born in Elgin, Ill. to the late James and Marion McHugh. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Charles Kemmerling II, and sister, Susan Bishop.
Mrs. Kemmerling is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Brent) Parish, of Stockbridge, Ga., Kelly (Robert) Raupach, of Stockbridge, Ga.; siblings, Rory (Tricia) Clark, of Kennesaw, Ga., Lynn (Marty) Monti, of Fox River Grove, IL, Martha (Mark) Opels, of McHenry, Ill., Michael McHugh, of Avondale Estates, Ga.; grandchildren, Austin James Raupach, Robert Chase Raupach, Everett Parish; nieces and nephews, Celeste Clark, Alanna Clymer, Bridget Boyd, Jon Monti, Colleen Casanova, Patrick McHugh, Dan Opels, Mike Opels, Patricia Gascon; great-niece, Haylie Nixon; plus, many other nieces, nephews, family, friends and loved ones.
