Free tax return e-filing for senior citizens
Special to The Times
Free tax return preparation with free e-filing is available to seniors and those with low income at several AARP sites from February through April 14. The local sites are in McDonough, Fairview, and Jonesboro.
The McDonough site will be on Mondays at the McDonough Assembly of God, Hwy. 42 N. The hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. every Monday beginning on February 6. No appointments will be made; clients will be taken in order of arrival. There are nine tax preparers, so service should be quick. You should not come, however, until you are positive that you have received all of your documents.
The Fairview site will be on Thursdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fairview Recreation Center, 35 Austin Road, Stockbridge, beginning February 2.
The Jonesboro site is on Fridays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Charley Griswell Senior Center, 2300 Hwy. 138 E, beginning February 3. Appointments are necessary at these two sites; call 770-412-2940 to make arrangements.
There will be a one-day site at the Eastside Baptist Church, 4010 Hwy. 138 SW, on Wednesday, February 22, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. You can learn more about this one by calling 770-412-2940; an appointment is necessary.
When you come for tax preparation at any of the sites, you must bring the following items: Your 2015 tax return; picture ID’s and Social Security numbers for self, spouse, and/or dependents; W-2’s; SSA 1099’s; 1099R’s; 1099 INT’s; 1099 DIV’s; 1099G’s – all sources of income. If you have insurance through the Marketplace, you should have the 1095 insurance form.
If you are itemizing, you should bring receipts or clear documentation about medical expenses, insurance premiums, property tax, donations, etc.
