Mrs. Kathleen Youmans Griffin, age 93, passed away Sunday, December 18.

Edna Mae Huckaby Whitaker
Mrs. Edna Mae Huckaby Whitaker, age 99, of McDonough, Ga., passed away January 3, 2017. She was born in Spalding County the daughter of the late Tommie L. Hatton Huckaby and Otis R. Huckaby. Mrs. Whitaker enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, camping, sewing, crocheting, playing bingo and other games at the assisted living home. She was the oldest member of McDonough First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Luther Whitaker, SR; son, Jim Whitaker and 12 siblings.
Survivors are her daughter, Joan Hall of Athens; daughter-in-law, Pat Whitaker of McDonough; grandchildren, Randy Hall (Shana) of Commerce, Susan Harvey (Tommy) of Statham, and Karen Maddox (Marty) of Jackson; great grandchildren, Kyle Harvey (Beth), Cole Harvey (Penny), Ryan Maddox, and Maddi Hurd; great-great grandson, Thomas Harvey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Whitaker were held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at noon at McDonough First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Maeser officiating. Billy Almand Powell
Billy Almand Powell, age 85 of McDonough, Ga., died Wednesday, January 4, 2017. He was born in Dublin, Georgia to the late James William Powell and Minnie Leah Dominy. He was preceded in death by his son, Billy Powell; two sisters, Loretta Rucker and Jeanette Chamblee. Billy was a member of First Baptist Church in McDonough where he served as a deacon for many years. He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. Mr. Powell enjoyed hunting, fishing and racing on Daytona Beach before Nascar. He retired in 1994 from American National Can/Rexam.
Billy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Beatrice Powell; children and their spouses, Denise and Mike Coffey, of Orlando, Fla., Brenda and Roger Sevigny, of Hendersonville, Tenn., Tim and Kathy Powell, of McDonough, Ga., Kathy and Chuck Beaver, of Oakland, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at McDonough First Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Thomas officiating. Entombment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. before the service at the church.
