GDOT hosting open house on SR 42 widening project

Special to the Times

On Thursday, January 12 from 5-7 p.m. there will be a Public Information Open House at Eagles Landing First Baptist Church hosted by the Georgia Department of Transportation to inform the public about the widening of SR 42 from Veterans Drive in McDonough to its ending on SR 138 in Stockbridge (approximately 7 miles). The church is located at 2400 Highway 42 North in McDonough.

This project proposes to widen State Route (SR) 42 from a 2-lane to a 4-lane roadway with a median. The southern end of the proposed project begins at approximately Veterans Drive tying into the northern end of the McDonough north/south one-way pair. From there, the proposed project would continue to the north widening SR 42 until its ending point at SR 138 in Stockbridge, GA. The total length of the proposed project is approximately 7 miles and the anticipated ROW/easement width is approximately 100 feet. Some intersections and driveways would be realigned to tie into the new roadway throughout the proposed project corridor.

The purpose of this Location and Public Information Open House is to provide the public with an opportunity to view the project, ask questions, and comment on the project.

The Open House will be informal, and the public is invited to attend anytime during these hours. There will be no formal presentation. A court reporter will be available to allow the public an opportunity to make verbal comments about the project.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Information: The meeting site is accessible to those with disabilities. Accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged in advance by calling Harland Smith at 706-646-7566.

Written statements will be accepted regarding this project until Monday, January 23, 2017. Written statements may be submitted to: Mr. Eric Duff, State Environmental Administrator, Georgia Department of Transportation, 600 West Peachtree Street, NW – 16th Floor, Atlanta, Georgia 30308.
