Miss Georgia USA Pageant begins this week
By Jason A. Smith
Young ladies from across the state will converge in McDonough this week for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The 2017 Miss Georgia USA and Miss Georgia Teen USA pageants is set for Nov. 17-19 at the Henry County Performing Arts Center, at 38 Lemon St. Contestants will compete in three equal phases of preliminary competition, including swimsuit/active wear, evening gown, and interview.
McDonough is hosting the pageant for the third straight year. In the swimsuit/active wear portion of the event, each contestant will be evaluated on physical fitness, stage presence, and overall impression. The evening-gown competition will evaluate the ladies on grace, poise, style, stage presence, confidence and overall impression.
Interviews will be conducted one-on-one. Contestants will have four-minute interviews with each of five judges at the event. They will be scored on their communication skills, and personality, and not on their opinions or personal beliefs.
Scores from the preliminary phases of competition will then be tallied, with the 10-15 highest composite scores advancing to the semifinals. The winner will go on to compete in the annual Miss USA Pageant.
