Henry County Schools continue Leadership Listens Tour
Special to The Times
Henry County Schools’ senior administrative officials set out to meet with community members all across Henry County last year as a part of their Leadership Listens Tour, and they will do the same for the current school year starting in August.
Designed as an informal opportunity for residents of Henry County to meet with board members, system administrators, and school building leaders, this drop-in format allows for any topic to be discussed or any issue to be shared as there is no set agenda.
“We want to give people across the county the opportunity to come meet with us at a time more convenient for most individuals and unrestrictive as it relates to there not being a program or agenda,” said Superintendent Rodney Bowler.
The meetings are generally held from 6-8 p.m. on a select night every couple of months. The general pattern is to meet at a school within one of the five board member districts, rotating to a different district and school each time around.
The first meeting of the 2016-2017 school year was held at East Lake Elementary on Tuesday, August 23. Members of the school board were on hand as were central office officials and principals from schools in the 4th District.
Interested community members do not have to live in a specific area to attend one of the stops on the tour. The events are open to any resident who wishes to come meet school officials and discuss school-related items important to them.
“We stopped at high schools last year for our tour, and this year we are allowing elementary schools to play host to our stops,” Bowler said as he shared there was an effort made to provide easy access to residents from all corners of the county.
“The citizenry of this county helps make our school system the acclaimed system that it is, and we rely on our partnership with families and businesses to ensure the success of each one of our students. We want to be as accessible as possible.”
Dates and locations for future events are as follows:
-Ola Elementary - September 13 (District 3)
-Luella Elementary – November 1 (District 2)
-Unity Grove Elementary – February 28 (District 1)
-Austin Road Elementary – March 21 (District 5)
