Local hospice collecting food donations during August
Staff members from the Gentiva Hospice Stockbridge office will be blanketing the community throughout August, distributing food collection bags and gathering donations for the Georgia Food and Resource Center and Miriam’s Sanctuary as part of the company’s Annual Food Drive. Employees at the Gentiva Hospice of Stockbridge office and their fellow employees around the country – part of the Kindred at Home family of home healthcare – are placing the food collection bags at various healthcare facilities in their respective communities and will collect their “harvest” during the entire month of August. Volunteer Information Session at Habitat ReStore
The community is invited to a Volunteer Information Session /Open House at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in McDon-ough on Saturday, August 6, at 10:30 a.m. This presentation will focus on volunteering at the Habitat ReStore. The ReStore is located at 1465 Highway 20 West, McDonough 30253. Volunteers typically serve one 4-hour shift a week, but even just one or two shifts a month would be appreciated. The ReStore sells donated new and gently used furniture, household décor, appliances, and building supplies to the general public at prices greatly reduced from retail. Profits go to support Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity as they provide affordable housing for families in the community who need it. Diabetes Prevention Program
A CDC Diabetes Prevention Program will begin Tuesday, August 9 from 4-5 p.m. and continue for the next 16 weeks. It will be held at the Hands of Hope Clinic, located at 1010 Hospital Drive in Stockbridge. The class leader, Jane Prince, is a registered nurse and a lifestyle coach. Free Tennis Clinic August 6
The Henry County Recreation Department will sponsor a Free Tennis Clinic on Saturday, August 6 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Richard Craig Park in McDonough. Registration will begin at 8:15 a.m. and the clinic will begin promptly at 9 a.m. The first 50 participants to sign in on the morning of the Tennis Clinic will receive T-shirts. Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of the serve, volley, forehand and backhand. The clinic is for ages 5-85 and for all skill levels. The director is Joeann Compton. Special guests will be Makayla and Alycia Parks. The Parks sisters are currently pursuing professional tennis careers at various tennis academies in Florida.
