Local private schools offering pre-kindergarten classes

Some parents preparing for the school year have to consider multiple options for children of various ages. Those who have school-age children as well as younger ones usually must consider separate locations for each with more complicated drop-off and pick-up schedules.

Most of the county’s private schools have addressed this issue by providing pre-kindergarten classes. For those children even younger, there are a couple of choices that provide more convenience for families.

Strong Rock Christian School opened its Early Learning Center July 11, according to director Amy Justice. It serves children from six weeks of age through four-year kindergarten along with after-school programs for students at Locust Grove Elementary and Unity Grove Elementary as well as Strong Rock.

The new facility is on Locust Grove-Griffin Road, across I-75 from the SRCS campus, but older siblings attending the school have access to bus service to and from the center. Its capacity is 164 children in 12 classrooms, a few of which are already full, Justice said.

There are a total of 20 employees in the building, which originally housed a separate child care facility that was vacant for quite some time but has been totally renovated.

A program similar to the one opening at Strong Rock was begun a decade ago at Community Christian School in Stockbridge. Started primarily for the children of staff and faculty members, it was expanded as administrators saw the need among parents of students at the school and it expanded quickly. An early education building was constructed on the CCS campus for students from six weeks of age through four-year kindergarten, allowing parents of school-age children and toddlers or infants to have them all at one location during the day.

Some other local private schools, including Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy and Creekside Christian Academy, offer pre-kindergarten programs for three- and four-year-olds.

Information on all of these programs can be found on the schools’ respective websites.
