Henry Schools to host Certified Teacher Job Fair February 5
Special to The Times
Henry County Schools is set to hold its annual certified teacher job fair on the first Friday in February. This marks the third year of the event since it was reintroduced in 2014. Each year, hundreds of teachers turn out to introduce themselves and apply for job openings in schools all across the district.
Hampton High School will once again play host to this event on Friday, February 5 from 9 a.m. until noon. The address for the school is 795 Hampton-Locust Grove Road in Hampton.
Those attending the fair should hold or be eligible for a Georgia Educator Certificate by the start of the 2016-17 school year. A completed application through the district’s AppliTrack system is encouraged. (www.applitrack.com/henry/onlineapp/)
Student enrollment in Henry County Schools continues to increase year after year, and the school system is making preparations to fill the newly needed slots while also filling vacancies created by natural attrition. Assistant Superintendent for Human Resource Services Valerie Suessmith said she sees her expectations exceeded each year regarding the amount of interest in Henry County Schools, but she believes the timing of this year’s fair could produce even more qualified candidates.
“Our job fair is one of the earlier ones in the metro area,” said Suessmith. “Hosting our job fair at this point in the year enables us to attract more qualified candidates who are in search of teaching jobs for the 2016-17 school year.”
Those teachers or teaching candidates attending the job fair should be dressed professionally and bring copies of their resume. On-site interviews are a possibility with some schools.
There is a projected need to fill over 300 teaching positions due to natural attrition and several new positions becoming available. Teachers for all subjects and grade levels are being sought.
Henry County Schools is the state’s eighth largest school district, teaching over 42,000 students daily. With close to 6,000 employees, the district is the county’s largest employer.
