AARP Tax Aide program to assist local seniors

From Staff Reports

McDonough Assembly of God, at 338 Ga. Highway 42 N., in McDonough will host clients for the AARP Tax-Aide program each Monday from February 1 through April 11. The program is designed for low- and moderate-income taxpayers, especially those ages 60 and older.

Individuals seeking tax preparation are asked to bring a copy of last year’s return, all applicable tax forms such as W-2’s, 1099’s, receipts, stock reports, Social Security cards or other official documentation for themselves and all dependents, and photo identification.

The Affordable Care Act requires additional information about insurance coverage for each person on a tax return. In order to have a return prepared, taxpayers must bring the following information: 1) If taxpayer purchased health insurance through the Marketplace /Exchange, form 109S-A, which you should receive by January 31. 2) Health insurance coverage for taxpayer, spouse, and all dependents. 3) If taxpayer doesn't have full-year coverage, information on monthly coverage. 4) Any health care exemptions received from the IRS or the Marketplace/Exchange.

Those who are expecting a refund and want it direct deposited should bring a check with printed bank information.

Clients will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The facility can accommodate approximately 35-40 clients each Monday, with a one-hour lunch break around noon.

The church, which is also the site for VITA tax counseling on Saturdays, provides ample space for parking, waiting, and working. Handicap accessibility is available at the right-side door.
