Hey Henry - 12.23.15

Hey Henry, I want to thank the person at the old Smead warehouse taking care of our flag even though the place is closed. The flag was tattered and torn when I passed by and I was going to replace it with a new one and retire the old ones the next day, to my surprise someone had replaced it earlier. Thank you and Semper Fi.

Hey, Henry, an update for the person(s) who caused me to break my foot and wrist recently. My foot will be well by end of year. Wrist requires surgery and extensive rehab. Medical costs will be well over $1000. Man-up and pay-up because I need the money badly to pay medical bills!

Hey Henry, the person talking about going downtown and feeling safe and the homeless man asking for money, yeah, I would feel safe as long as I have a gun on my side. As far as the homeless man, no, he didn’t want your money for food, he wanted it for liquor or drugs. That’s why I don’t give to anyone!

Hey Henry, to the person addressing the trash on 81 Hwy. Yes there has been a different class of people moving into our town and county for the last 15 years. That’s not the only road, nearly 80% of the county looks that way. Where have you been? Go to Wal-Mart, or just sit at a traffic light. Yep. Pretty obvious to me!

Hey Henry, to “EX” Mayor Tim Thompson, you’re quoted on the news as saying, “The people that really know me ... they know what kind of person I am.” This is the first thing from your mouth that’s true! We all know you and at least you won’t be wasting our tax money anymore! Now, go take an anger management class ... there’s still time to become a real person!

Hey Henry, when is the county going to fix the potholes on Airline Road between McGarity Road and Hwy. 20? They are getting so big, they may become a sink hole and swallow our cars!

Hey Henry, the scene was set in Stockbridge Monday evening with a cast of characters who attacked Mayor Thompson so viciously that he resigned from his duties as Mayor! He will recover from his wounded state of mind because he is decent to the core. Hopefully the movie and TV talent scouts were watching because Ms. Gantt is certain to land a role on The Real House Wives of Atlanta for her performance!

Hey Henry, what happened to “Slower Traffic Keep Right?” If you aren’t using the left lane to pass, get out of the way for everyone else that would like to. Just because you are turning left in 2 miles doesn’t mean you should ride in the left lane blocking both lanes for people that would like to pass cars in the right lane. Move over! It’s my choice if I want to go faster than the speed limit, not yours.

Hey Henry, a shout out and heartfelt thanks to Beverly Wittler for her wonderful editorial in this past edition for veterans and her father. We should all remember the sacrifices of those who have and still defend us so that we can be free. On the day of that Veteran’s parade, when they where deciding whether or not to continue in the rain, a cadet said, “if those over there fight and die for us in the rain, then surely we can march and honor them here, in the rain.” And so it was. I’m proud of all who serve and support those who do.

Hey Henry, one day I was driving in a parking lot that had been recently repaved. It looked so nice, I sighed knowing it would not stay that way very long. Everyone has the right to chew gum, smoke, change baby diapers, and spit, it is just a shame that folks who do those things in the parking lot don’t have enough smarts to use the trash can available in front of the store.

Hey Henry - 12.16.15

Hey Henry, I really did enjoy the Christmas Parade in McDonough on Saturday night. But the next time please require the young adults on dirt bikes and four wheelers to wear a helmet. Maybe Santa could bring them a helmet for Christmas and maybe extend a healthy future.

Hey Henry, does anyone know what business is going to be built next to Bojangles on Jonesboro Road?

Hey Henry, I was recently doing some Christmas shopping and while trying to find a parking space I noticed a silver courtesy car sitting in two parking spaces. One spot was the one I was looking to park in. Well I went on down the isle and parked. Funny though, a “courtesy car” hogging two parking spots. Not very courteous if you ask me.

Hey Henry, I read that the family of Tashfeen Malik in Saudia Arabia is devastated. I’m sure that will mean a lot to the families of the people he killed.

Hey Henry, I could not but feel a great deal of sadness and disappointment as I read your article relating to Family Promise. Only 7 out of 143 churches in our county are willing to step up to the plate in assisting our fellow man at one of the most difficult times in their lives. What must the remaining pastors, ministers, priests, etc. consider the meaning of Jesus commandment of loving one another as He loved us? Editor’s Note: Amen.

Hey Henry, for the person who was “embarrassed to tears” by the audience’s behavior, here’s a(n) haiku: Room full of goobers, Ballet performance pretty, Bubba picks his nose.

Hey Henry, instead of people riding bicycles in traffic I think we should just designate an entire state for bikes only.

Hey Henry, either a lower class of people are moving to McDonough or McDonough does not care what it looks like since Hwy. 81 from Publix to Keys Ferry and on Keys Ferry Road looks like a slum with all the garbage on the roadside.

Hey Henry, it is so sad that our roadways here in McDonough are covered in dead animals. Be kind and slow down or if safe, stop and let the animals get across the roads. Have a heart.

Hey Henry, my wife and I recently visited Centennial Park in Atlanta and also rode the Sky View ferris wheel. Parking cost more than a single ticket for the ride, and afterwards we walked around. We hear stories of people being robbed, even being hurt. Where is the security. I myself am not a tough guy like I use to be, because of health, but do like to feel safe. Our only obstacle was a homeless person wanting money for food. We did offer to buy him food but he wanted money instead. Heads up Atlanta, practice what you preach, make your security more noticeable. Henry, thought about bringing a ferris wheel here to our city?

Hey Henry, I will never patronize any business on the McDonough Square during the week because of the parking meters. It really takes away from the small town charm and lets you see the true greed of City Government.

Hey Henry, it always makes me feel good to see people driving around flying American flags in their trucks.

Hey Henry, I heard that the lady who shot at shoplifters at a Home Depot will never help anyone again. That is probably a good thing if that’s your idea of help.

Hey Henry - 12.09.15

Hey Henry, thoughts and prayers go out to the people in San Bernardino, Calif. and Savannah, Ga. A shooting took place there on the same day. Too many shootings.

Hey Henry, why can’t the County paint the ends of the medians where they can be seen at night? The one at Ga. Hwy. 20 and Chick-fil-A is impossible to see. I have seen numerous cars bounce over it!

Hey Henry, does anyone in Henry County know how to use a turn signal and turn on their lights when its getting dark and raining? Maybe they need to take a driving course.

Hey Henry, I know how to help the traffic in Locust Grove, how about the D.O.T. put an off ramp one exit down from the Locust Grove exit and it will keep the people from Butts County from coming through and causing all the traffic.

Hey Henry, I think these rednecks riding around in jacked up trucks that they can’t afford with these blue bright lights need to get a ticket. If you can’t see with the stock lights that come on the truck, you don’t need to be driving.

Hey Henry, I attended the DiBlasi School of Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker on December 5. The students did an excellent job and there were segments that Tchaikovsky himself would have been proud of. There was only one fly in the ointment, the audience! I was embarrassed to tears! It was “The Beverly Hillbillies go to the Ballet” ... to read the rest of this Hey Henry, click here.

Hey Henry, to the woman with bleached blonde hair, driving an old green Explorer, and going down the wrong lane in the parking lot to get the parking space I was going after; shame on you! God is watching. You’re not getting away with such rude behavior.

Hey Henry, why does the county waste the valuable time of intelligent job seekers and raise false hopes when they post jobs. The managers in every department already know who they’re going to select to fill the positions. Hint, hint. Family and friends.

Hey Henry, I don’t know whose fault it is but there are way too many selfish idiots driving cars. We let anyone have a drivers license. A car is as deadly as a gun. Try regulating that, Washington.

Hey Henry, when is the school board going to realize the experimental program at Locust Grove Middle School is a complete failure? This school is coming up with some of the lowest test scores in the state, the last two graduating classes are struggling in high school because the program that was utilized to teach them in middle school did not at all prepare them for high school. As such, numerous students are opting to transfer to Impact Academy at both the high school and middle school levels. This school is not preparing our students for success, bur rather for failure!

Hey Henry, instant information and social media have taught us that everything we say and think is noteworthy. This is absolutely false. I guess that is why manners and common courtesy are on the verge of extinction.

Hey Henry, let us know what’s on your mind! Scan the QR code to the left on your smart phone or tablet to go directly to the Hey Henry submission page. Come on ya’ll; it’s proven stress release!

Hey Henry - 12.02.15

Hey Henry, my dentist, Dr. Todd Bruno, is returning to work after a successful stem cell transplant. Oh happy day!

Hey Henry, while at a recent church service one family thought it was a great idea to keep their child with them through the service. That child talked through the whole service and I was not able to focus on what our preacher was saying. Not to mention, some other family decided it was a great idea to let their baby cry through the service. Please be considerate of others and use the childcare the church provides. No one thinks your little angel is such an angel when they continue to disrupt the service!

Hey Henry, on Eastlake Road in front of Union Grove High, why do people continue to ride in the right hand lane, when you know it is going to end. This is why I am so against the DOT using those lanes, when people have to merge over. Drivers are not smart enough to know how to use them. I’m sorry, my mistake, only the morons don’t know how to use merging lanes correctly.

Hey Henry, dear Kobe, thanks for the eloquently written breakup letter. While you are an excellent ball-handler, this breakup is mutual and you will not be missed. Signed, Basketball.

Hey Henry, to those of us who live out near fire station 12 off Old Jackson Road, the ambulance is only up part time. That ambulance should be up 24/7. I hope our emergencies don’t happen after hours. Please talk with your commissioners about this topic.

Hey Henry, our federal government told Georgia to not refuse food stamps to Syrian refugees. I have a 78 year old friend with crippling arthritis, who worked 60 years of her life in America who is only allowed $16 a month in food stamps.

Hey Henry, why have county codes and not enforce them? Code enforcement now picks and chooses which ones to enforce. Time to quit wasting taxpayer money on this department and do away with it.

Hey Henry, I come into contact with hundreds of Locust Grove residents on a daily basis and let me say, folks in the Grove are not shy about expressing their opinion. With that being said, not one person has ever said to me “Gee, I sure wish they would rename a road around here Martin Luther King Drive.” Road renaming is not a priority with the majority of residents here and is certainly not something we want our tax dollars spent on. We’re letting a few people’s desires speak for an entire town now?

Hey Henry, is anything ever going to be done about the horrible traffic in Henry County?

Hey Henry, as the spouse of someone who works in retail, I’m confused. It seems everyone around me says, “Let people be home with their families.” Then they are the first in line to get a deal sold by someone being missed. Hopefully this Black Friday thing won’t last forever. It can’t, can it?

Hey Henry - 11.25.15

Hey Henry, congratulations Henry Players, you finally have your own home. And to be opening there with your first play this December is quite a gift to us.

Hey Henry, in my opinion stores should be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. People should be home with their families on those days.

Hey Henry, a huge thank you to the two plumbers from the Henry County Schools Maintenance department for their work Saturday unclogging the drains at the Miss Georgia USA/Miss Georgia Teen pageant. That could have been a real mess, if you know what I mean!

Hey Henry, thanks to the person(s) who recently rang my doorbell and pounded on my door at 2 a.m. Because of your foolishness, I broke my foot and wrist trying to quickly get out of bed to check what was going on. You owe me approximately $900 for medical costs. I’ll watch for your check in the mail!

Hey Henry, congratulations to the Stockbridge Tigers Football Team! It would be nice if the city of Stockbridge and merchants in Stockbridge would support the school with some type of sign saying “Go Tigers” or “State Bound.” Hey, they could probably beat the Falcons. Show your support Stockbridge!

Hey Henry, stop buying your children these Chinese ATV’'s as Christmas presents. Every year there are a bunch of sad little kids sitting on their broken down disposable quads a few days later. Research and consider buying a name brand used one with available nationwide support.

Hey Henry, to the person complaining about the Texaco outside their subdivision, open your eyes, you do live in a high crime area. I guess you are trying to hide that fact so you can sell and leave too. Instead, why not try to be part of the solution and not just try to cover up the problem.

Hey Henry, recently I was at a restaurant on Jonesboro Road and saw 4 horses in the parking lot. Shocking but being born/raised in Henry County I told my two out-of-town guests “welcome to Henry County” and smiled. The three of us were amused. I drove to another store for something and parked next to two piles of horse droppings. Who picks this up? This isn’t on grass ... where is this supposed to go? We are supposed to pick up after our dogs at dog parks, why not here?

Hey Henry! I feel like such a failure. I’ve been shopping for forty years and I still don’t have anything to wear!

Hey Henry, what is it with people not using their blinkers? If you want to pull in front of me, you had better use it or a hand signal. It is called respect and courtesy, and it’s the law. To the Phenix Ambulance driver on Hwy. 16 in Griffin, being on a non emergency drive this law pertains to you also. Especially when it is raining and 5:40 a.m. I hope your dispatcher or CEO reads Hey Henry.

Hey Henry, Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Henry - 11.18.15

Hey Henry, God bless the people in France.

Hey Henry, To the parent who responded that their child deserves a FAPE regardless of who they assault; you are the reason children with disabilities think it’s okay to hit and kick their teachers. The special needs child is entitled to a fair discipline process, but not to be excused. Just so you are aware, there is not a disability that excuses your child from assaulting others, while you look the other way. You are a parent of a disabled child, but teachers are with your child 8-10 hours a day being hit, kicked, and spit on, while you make excuses. You may want to watch the recent news report on this matter. Teachers are entitled to press charges, and I believe this process has begun.

Hey Henry, to the person asking why the dirt roads in the county haven’t been paved as promised by the first SPLOST: I know why. The crooks are buying land from the other crooks leaving office.

Hey Henry, I keep hearing on the radio that public safety does not understand why we have so many injuries and fatalities on our roads. They should put an unmarked vehicle on the interstates with an updated dash cam and drive the speed limit. They will need a dash cam on the rear too. After they review the footage it will no longer be a surprise. They will see drivers not caring how they get to where they are going. They are going to get there, with no regard to other people’s safety.

Hey Henry, why is the newly constructed Shell gas station on the corner of Hwy. 81 and Upchurch Road still sitting empty? Commercial development on that corner was fought against for years, and this was the reason!

Hey Henry, I totally agree with the reader talking about drivers without their headlights on. I thought it was the law that you drive with headlights on when it’s raining, foggy and dark. And yes, I’ve seen people driving in the dark. Law enforcement officials should start pulling over people and writing tickets. Just think how much money they would collect. Hey drivers, when you see oncoming traffic blinking their lights at you, it means idiot, turn your lights on!

Hey Henry, to the person complaining about Texaco locking their pumps. I can only assume that you think the government should do something to fix this problem. As a private property owner, Texaco is allowed to take necessary measures to ensure their property is not stolen, the same as everyone else. I’m sure you would not take kindly to the government telling you that you cannot lock your doors. Get over it!

Hey Henry, I see that the Ga. DOT is doing their annual cutting of the grass between McDonough and Locust Grove.

Hey Henry, they say there’s no fool like an old fool, but some of the young fools are showing real promise.

Hey Henry, Woodland Elementary has the best staff of any school in Henry County. The front office ladies will go out of their way to help someone in any way they can.

Hey Henry - 11.11.15

Hey Henry, old Chinese proverb: man who rides tiger cannot get off.

Hey Henry, the business owners on the McDonough Square in the 1990’s put themselves out of business by welcoming the one way street pairs to the Square. They chose traffic congestion over customer congestion. The traffic won.

Hey Henry, in recent weeks we have experienced quite a number of dark, cloudy, rainy days. In driving around McDonough during these times, it seems there are a ridiculous number of drivers out there that obviously were napping during their safe driving course. Probably, most of those never took that class. How do you drive around on a dark, cloudy, rainy day in a dark colored vehicle with no headlights on? Someone please tell me. When your wipers are on, your headlights should be on as well. You people are a hazard on the road.

Hey Henry, to the person calling out a Christian school for being unsportmanlike because they run up the score, why? Not everybody can win. Are you trying to push socialism in sports too. Sometimes you win big and sometimes you lose big. Get over it. If you or your kid can’t handle losing, maybe you need to take them out of sports. And for that matter put them in a plastic bubble, because, guess what, they are going to face a lot more, when they grow up, than losing big in a game.

Hey Henry, I sure do wish I could pull over people for texting while driving and give them tickets. They think they are not being seen, but when you slow down to a crawl and then when done texting, floor it or continue to swerve, it is obvious you are texting. No text is worth a life!

Hey Henry, I agree with the writer about political supporters creating a circus waving signs on corners, especially near voting precincts. Perhaps those same candidates and volunteers would be better served to spend that amount of time learning about issues and learning about a candidate’s exact job duties if elected. If we want economic development, let’s clean up our corners and landscapes instead of creating a circus on them. When I see campaigners out picking up trash while campaigning, I’ll know that I have selected a quality candidate with leadership skills!

Hey Henry, the person who said ‘driving with your flashers on is illegal’ is incorrect. Many states do have laws against their use under certain circumstances, but Georgia isn’t one of them.

Hey Henry, “running up the score” in high school football is something that happens with 2nd and 3rd string players. It couldn’t be any more “sportsmanlike” unless they just kept handing the ball to the other team.

Hey Henry, the police need to put an APB out on the sun!

Hey Henry, why is the Texaco station at Hwy. 42 and Campground road allowed to have their gas pumps locked up with iron bars and padlocks on each one of them. This does not respresent our subdivision well at all, as the station is directly across from the Vineyards. When I spoke to the owner, he said that Texaco suggested that they do this because of people stealing gas. What’s wrong with installing cameras? I wouldn’t buy a house in the subdivision if I saw the gas pumps because it would immediately be thought of as high crime area. I believe this should be addressed.

Hey Henry - 11.04.15

Hey Henry, congratulations to the Ola Middle School Competion Cheerleaders on their undefeated competition season and on winning the 2015 County Championship. State, here we come ... We Are Ola!

Hey Henry, life is short! Smile while you still have teeth!

Hey Henry, why do drivers feel the need to drive with their flashers on when driving in the rain? First of all, it’s illegal if you are not an emergency vehicle. Second, the constant flash is annoying to the vehicles behind you. You can see a solid red tail light just as good. One more thing, if you can’t drive over 40 mph, stay home!

Hey Henry, thank you to Investigator Pitts and the kind people on I-75 in Locust Grove who called the police after someone hit my son’s car, spun it around and left.

Hey Henry, the soccer fields behind Patrick Henry High on S. Lee St. are awful! The fields have no grass, no lines, and no bathrooms. Surrounded by abandoned buildings, broken glass windows, and rusted fences. Looks like the zombie apocalypse was here. Scary! So sad, these Stockbridge youth soccer players deserve much better!

Hey Henry, politicians: your supporters standing on the street corners waving your signs at me will not win my vote. In fact, I will not vote for you. Hopefully, the voting public will do their due diligence and find out what you’re about instead of voting for you because of someone waving a sign around for you.

Hey Henry, the Lowes parking lot is public property?

Hey Henry, a local vison center I visited would be wise to train their “pre-testing” staff member on kindness and customer service. I have been in the office three times and her attitude is never pleasant. Rude and condescending is not how to keep customers. I will be looking for a friendly place to spend my money.

Hey Henry, I don’t care what excuse a high school coach may give, running up the score on another team is unsportsmanlike. Especially if the winning team is from a school that has Christian in its name.

Hey Henry, I hope a miracle happens and someone runs for president who is worth voting for.

Hey Henry, just because I give you advice doesn’t mean I’m smarter than you; it just means I’ve done more stupid stuff than you!

Hey Henry, a person should not have to move to Clayton County to have access to a YMCA, just like a person should not have to move to Clayton County to have access to the Airport.

Hey Henry, I noticed that Jackson held their Trick or Treating downtown on Saturday (Halloween date). Why did McDonough, Hampton and Locust Grove hold theirs on Friday? Friday traffic is terrible.

Hey Henry, is there a ‘Worst Driver in Henry’ contest going on that I don’t know about?

Hey Henry, on November 11, Veterans Day, I hope everyone in Henry County takes time to remember all those who gave their lives to make this country what it is. And if you should see a veteran, pay your respects - hold a door, tell them, “Thank you” or acknowledge them in some way.

Hey Henry - 10.28.15

Hey Henry, enjoy the low gas price since it is on the backs of the Seniors.

Hey Henry, dogs should be companions, not left in a cage or tied up outside to just exist. Yes, I understand they may need to be outside while you work, but for goodness sake, put them on a runner and make sure they have a house and water while you are gone. When you are home they should be with you, in the house or on a walk. Play with them and love them, for they love you unconditionally.

Hey Henry, to all these states that are holding off on executions due to the drugs being unavailable, you still have rope and guns right?

Hey Henry, when you're on Hwy. 42 and turning left onto Lawrenceville Steet just before the the McDonough courthouse and Square, if there’s traffic, don’t ride in the far left lane because it’s actually not a driving lane. It’s illegal. If I wait my turn to turn left and you’re turning left illegally at the same time and I hit you, guess whose fault it'll be? WAIT YOUR TURN!

Hey Henry, it’s bad news when you get to the age where your back goes out more often than you do.

Hey Henry, regarding the dirt road complainers, one of the first SPLOST taxes was passed with a promise to pave all the dirt roads in Henry County. This has not happened. I would like to know why this promise was not fulfilled.

Hey Henry, to the ignorant person telling parents of the disabled to use consequences and discipline; this doesn’t work for brain damage. It’s required by law that everyone is entitled to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). If I can deal with my child, so can the special education teacher who is trained. You should be glad that you don’t have to raise a child with this severe brain damage, instead of giving stupid parenting tips.

Hey Henry, I’m all for new sidewalks and paved dirt roads as long as you pay for it.

Hey Henry, in response to the person being critical of the man living in his car in the Lowe’s parking lot, they should stop and say hello to him. He is very kind and a gentle soul. Maybe the person should say, “There but for the grace of God go I.”

Hey Henry, Well, it’s 3 p.m. on a Friday afternoon again and Locust Grove looks like a parking lot. Radio says a wreck at Jonesboro Road has north 75 traffic backed up to past the GA 16 exit coming north. Folks jumping off right and left at LG exit. Any LG officers manually directing traffic? Nope!

Hey Henry, On a recent trip to a home improvement store in McDonough, I noticed that they have a plumbing department but the faucets in the mens room barely trickle out water. Must be a water-saving faucet.

Hey Henry, I love Halloween, but I am sick of all these parents collecting candy for babies or sick children. If your child is sick, candy is the last thing they need, and a baby doesn’t need candy at all. The same goes for kids trick or treating for a sibling or friend. People aren’t stupid and they know you’re just being greedy. If you are old enough to have a job then you are too old to trick or treat. That’s why most people only give out one piece of candy. Grow up people, you are taking all the fun out of Halloween!

Hey Henry - 10.21.15

Hey Henry, I want your socks! These are the most needed and least donated item for the homeless. Please donate new or like new socks to Socksgiving for the homeless. Contact 404-769-3858 for more information.

Hey Henry I’m at an age where all my secrets are safe with my friends, because they can’t remember them either.

Hey Henry, I wish people would stop saying that Henry is going to be the next Clayton. That’s insulting to Clayton. Henry is going to be much worse.

Hey Henry, this is another dirt road complainer. I built my home on a dirt road in 1997 with no promise it would ever be paved but with the expectation that here in the 21st century that it might one day be paved. You do understand that my fellow dirt road dwellers and I pay property tax and SPLOST, right?

Hey Henry, if your child, regardless of disability, doesn’t mind you, then how do you justify sending them to school to hit and kick the teachers? Please stop blaming the disability and instill some discipline and consequences.

Hey Henry, I am writing of a dire need for a sidewalk. Driving daily on Flippen Road I always see 3-4 people walking on the side of the road, mostly in high grass. Many times they have to walk on the road because the side is impassable.

Hey Henry, I don’t care if the homeless man at Lowe’s is harmless and a genius, he shouldn’t be living in a public parking lot. It has nothing to do with religion, but perhaps you should take a look in your religious mirror.

Hey Henry, when is the Sheriff’s office or the Stockbridge Police going to finally do something about the creepy man going door to door begging for money in Northwind Subdivision and along Walt Stephens Road? They have been notified many times.

Hey Henry, I am sick and tired of hearing about a freedom bell monument on Stone Mountain, in reference to Martin Luther King. That is a Confederate park! It has nothing to do with Martin Luther King, who was not even born during this time. People want to take the carvings off the mountain, saying that this was the past and that we should move forward. That is a joke when black history is constantly being reminded. A Confederate park should have the symbols of that time. That is history and you cannot change history!

Hey Henry, don’t complain about the lack of quality services you get from your public safety because crime is on the rise, we’re doing more for less because the police department is short handed. The commissioners haven’t voted on a substantial raise in seven years, and they refuse to vote for a pay scale to attract quality personnel to work for Henry County. Don’t complain to the Chief because you’re not happy, complain to the commissioners for not seeing what’s in front of them!

Hey Henry, maybe I’m crazy but I don’t think it is okay for a person running for office to deliver absentee ballots to nursing homes. Wouldn’t that be a better job for the Board of Elections? I know it is not illegal but unethical maybe. It is illegal if you are handing them out, helping them fill them out and/or mailing them. I’m all for making sure everyone has an opportunity to vote but I’m also for a system that works with integrity.

Hey Henry - 10.14.15

Hey Henry, I’m going to retire and live off my savings. What I’ll do the second week I have no idea.

Hey Henry, on Saturday, October 3, I witnessed a Henry County Policeman giving aid to a lady in a mini-van. She was on Hwy. 155 in the turning lane with a flat tire. The policeman was on his knees changing her tire for her. Thank you sir! Your kindness was noted and appreciated by more than the woman in the mini-van!

Hey Henry, today, a quote by Reverend Billy Graham about courage reminded me of Mayor Tim Thompson in Stockbridge who is trying against all odds to call to the attention of citizens the truth about past/current Council’s abuse of money and power. Reverend Graham’s quote simply said, “Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spine of others are often stiffened.” Good luck Mayor Thompson!

Hey Henry, regarding the homeless person at Lowes: talk to him sometime; you’ll be amazed at his intelligence and harmless approach to life. Also, Lowes is not in the Stockbridge City Limits, it is firmly in Clayton County. Lastly, if your compassion is a by-product of your religious background, please find another church to attend.

Hey Henry, well we have another “dirt road complainer.” You bought the property knowing it was on a dirt road with no promise it would be paved. I am sure price was a factor in this purchase and having been in Real Estate for 35 years I know there is a price deferential between paved and dirt roads. Why should the taxpayers subsidize your property value? Also, Code Enforcement has nothing to do with roads, either paved or dirt. Your County Commissioner is your contact for this “complaint.”

Hey Henry, we’re all mature until someone pulls out the bubblewrap.

Hey Henry, didn’t see where anyone referred to all youth as “unappreciative.” But, those that don’t appreciate the YMCA would ruin the place for the youth that do. The problem is this, most of today’s youth do not respect people or property ... period. More money spent on repairs each year is what we would end up with, just another government-funded project to get trashed. Not what I want my tax dollars being wasted on, sorry.

Hey Henry, why are there no movie theaters in Stockbridge?

Hey Henry, McDonalds, learn how to make a buttered biscuit. Brushing the top of a biscuit with butter does not make a buttered biscuit. You are in the South, so get it right!

Hey Henry, don’t worry about that homeless man living in the Lowes parking lot. Be worried about the condition of Henry country (trash on the roads, crime, traffic, loud music, non-handicapped people in handicapped spots). Clayton country is here.

Hey Henry, those hash marks in the road are called crosswalks. When a person is in the crosswalk the driver is supposed to stop. Go back to driving school. I almost got hit because a car would not stop while I was in the crosswalk.

Hey Henry, does anyone in this county know what “Left turn yield on green” means?

Hey Henry - 10.07.15

Hey Henry, a YMCA would be nice for Henry County for all of its residents. It is very negative to characterize all of our youth as “unappreciative.”

Hey Henry, it’s the time of year when the fall sun is fierce. It can blind you while driving right into it. Slow down, losing your life or taking someone else’s isn’t worth getting somewhere in a hurry.

Hey Henry, my life coach just told me to let the clock run out.

Hey Henry, during the two election cycles everybody wanted to vote out the previous commissioners and chairman. Well that happened and this current board is supposed to be “The Dream Team.” Well, it’s more like a “Nightmare on Elm Street.”

Hey Henry, I just read an article about the dangers of drinking. It scared me so bad I decided no more reading!

Hey Henry, let’s take the time to remember all those who have paid the price for our country. Especially those who lost their lives in the plane crash in Afghanistan, including Airman 1st Class Kcey E. Ruiz, 21, of McDonough.

Hey Henry, what do we have to do to get the turn signal operating on Hwy. 155 to get on the 1-75 southbound ramp? I have to turn on a red light in order to get on the ramp.

Hey Henry, I read in the AAA magazine that 70% of traffic accidents here in Georgia are from people changing lanes. If you are on the interstate and you need to change lanes the very first things you do is turn you blinker/signal on to let people know that you need to move over. Secondly, look to see if anyone is in that lane. If there is someone beside you or coming up to you, you wait till they pass before moving over. If they are coming up to you, you wait, you do not have the right of way, just because your blinker is on. If they flash their lights at you, then you can move over. If not, you wait till they pass to change lanes.

Hey Henry, why is the homeless person who lives in a car in the Lowe’s parking lot in Stockbridge allowed to live there? He’s been there for a very long time. It’s very unsightly for the city. Something should be done to find him a suitable place to live and get him off the streets. Has the City of Stockbridge been notified?

Hey Henry, I am a Christian and I am writing because of the others I see here and there who lack Christian behavior. Recently I was driving on Airline Road, doing the speed limit and a lady with a blue cross hanging from her mirror tailgated me the whole way home. Another instance is in my church’s parking lot, I am often unable to park and cannot get into the space due to another church member hogging two parking spots. As a Christian, you should pay more attention to how you pull into the parking space, making sure you only take one spot and park in the middle of your spot. Kindness says a lot about a Christian. Practice what you preach, unless you want to be labeled a hypocrite.

Hey Henry, to the person who says we ought to remove code enforcement from the County budget, I could not agree more. I called one day and was told to plant cypress trees at the bottom of my property to cut down on the gravel road dust that cars kick up. I asked if they could come out and see for themselves and was told again to plant the trees. Will the County pay for pressure washing my house? If they do not want to pave the road, they should be planting those trees.

Hey Henry - 09.30.15

Hey Henry, with the Mt. Carmel bridge out over I-75 shouldn’t someone be jumping over it in an orange Dodge, black Trans Am, or a bus that can’t go below 50 MPH?

Hey Henry, I live within the city limits of McDonough in an apartment complex. Recently our water bills have increased dramatically. What I can’t figure out is why my water bill is more than a 4-person family living a 3 bedroom/2 bath house. Explanation anyone?

Hey Henry, kudos to the person who recognized that grass clippings and horse poop should be taken care of. I scoop poop on my property regardless. Should be no different for larger animals. It’s called being responsible. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac and yes those things do go through the drainage system. I see it all the time. Hey code enforcement what's up with that?

Hey Henry, that gift the horse is leaving is free fertilizer for you. Scoop it up, dry it out, lay it out. Best fertilizer ever! Dog poop not so much. People move to the country then complain about what is country.

Hey Henry, what is a ‘life coach?’ Is that like what your mom and dad were supposed to have done?

Hey Henry, it is such a pleasure to ride down Fairview Road in the mornings and afternoons. I love to see the school crossing guards at Austin Road Elementary and Middle School and Fairview Elementary. They are always so friendly and have a smile and wave and a thank you for everybody. It does a soul good to see friendly, happy people!

Hey Henry, to the person concerned about people taking donations left after hours at the Salvation Army and selling them. If people would follow the rules and leave donations during business hours this wouldn’t be an issue. I consider things left on the roadside to be trash. Just like the people who left them there.

Hey Henry, I want to congratulate the Eagles Landing High School Cheerleaders on their second place win at the “Battle of the Grove” competition. In my opinion, you should have taken first place. Keep working hard. You girls were amazing! We will see you at the next competition and perhaps one day cheering college level. You all have the potential!

Hey Henry, to the person wanting a YMCA, really? First of all, if you want something in Clayton then move there. I know they have plenty of room for you. Secondly, why should they build a place to be ruined by unappreciative youth?

Hey Henry, while driving through the Panola and Fairview Road construction area, I ran over a screw and a bolt. I had my tires repaired at a shop on Fairview Road and the owner told me he’s averaged 10+ tire repairs a week since the road widening began. My question is, why wasn’t the street swept daily and who’s going to refund my $25?

Hey Henry, when riding a horse, you’re on his back, facing forward and have no idea when it goes to the bathroom. The rider has no idea the horse has left a pile at your driveway. There’s a big difference and the rider is not being disrespectful as the dog walker who doesn’t pick up. Where horses are ridden means you’re in the country. Go back to city life.

Hey Henry, drivers don’t seem to understand that you turn on your lights when it is raining. Even during the day.

Hey Henry - 09.23.15

Hey Henry, I discovered you can get free e-books and online magazines if you have a Henry County Library card. I will save so much money thanks to these services. I also got a free book when I received my new library card! Yeah!

Hey Henry, I would like to say a big thank you to the best teacher in the county, Mr. Teti. The Ola Middle School pep band performed at their first game last Wednesday and they were fantastic. How one teacher manages a group of over 120+ students is amazing. He has the largest band classes in the county and it is all because he is so wonderful with the kids. They love him! Thanks again Mr. Teti. We appreciate you!

Hey Henry, the 9/11 Glow Run on the Square was awesome, awesome, awesome! Family fun and a great way to honor all first responders.

Hey Henry, to the pick up truck with side boxes. Pull out on me again on Hwy. 20 then be funny and slam on your brakes. Next time I will be recording it and I will be driving a new vehicle.

Hey Henry, last week it took me over 15 minutes to go from the railroad tracks to the Square with no accidents. Will the East/West, one way pairs through town ever be completed?

Hey Henry, I know a way we can reduce our county budget. Code enforcement isn’t enforcing rules except on some people. One blatant right of way violation is being left alone because the homeowner refuses to comply. If we all aren’t required to follow county codes, why have this department?

Hey Henry, a recent study says that if we burn through the earths remaining fossil fuel, Antarctica’s ice would be a thing of the past. Lets hope the oil companies don’t take this as a challenge.

Hey Henry, we have laws about cleaning up dog poop while walking our dogs. What about the people who ride horses? Who is going to clean up that mess they left behind, right at the entrance to my drive. Some people are so disrespectful.

Hey Henry, shame on the state and Henry County Board of Education for paying paraprofessionals below the poverty level. This needs to be changed.

Hey Henry, I’m concerned about the intersection of Hwy. 138 and Hemphill Road. I thought there was SPLOST money set aside for this project and I believe I did see a sign at the intersection about 8 months ago to this effect. What happened county government? We need a light ASAP.

Hey Henry, I think it’s past time to get the railroad arms taken down at Bill Gardner Parkway near Hwy. 155 because trains have not used this crossing in 28 years. The tracks have already been black topped. This is a dangerous spot should a truck or car run into them, or if lightning strikes. It is also an eyesore. E-mail ann.mack@nscorp.com to request this.

Hey Henry, my favorite exercise at the gym is lateral neck turns. I walk in, shake my head, think “no way,” and walk out again.

Hey Henry, if you want to know what a woman’s mind is like, imagine a browser with 2500 tabs open at one time!

Hey Henry, to the person who wants all the grass picked up after people mow. Who will pay to clean up all those grass clippings? Roadside trash also contributes to the stormwater problems.

Hey Henry - 09.016.15

Hey Henry, to the ones who think it’s okay to speed through a DOT work zone, the flagging sign says slow for a reason. You wouldn’t pass a school bus that is letting kids off, so don’t speed through a work zone. These people are putting their lives at risk everyday because of people who have no consideration for someone else’s safety. So next time slow it down!

Hey Henry, why does our county need school bus drivers when there are so many parents out there that think they know how to do it better? Step up and drive!

Hey Henry, three times now, I have seen a couple on Race Track Road pick up items left in front of the Salvation Army after hours, then turn around and sell those items at their “yard sale.” Do you have any shame?

Hey Henry, recently my colleague and I took our group of eight exceptional students on a community based instruction trip. Afterwards we stopped at the Cracker Barrel in McDonough. The manager approached us and spoke to us a bit about our class. About ten minutes later she returned and told us that a man had paid our bill. This random act of kindness gave us the opportunity to teach another lesson to our students about kindness and paying it forward. Thank you to the mystery man from the entire class. Your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated!

Hey Henry, can we please get a YMCA? This is an idea we should emulate from Clayton County.

Hey Henry, does anyone know of a Subway in the McDon-ough/Locust Grove area that is honoring the Freddie Freeman home run deal, where if Freddie gets a home run, the next day you can go to Subway and buy one and get one free?

Hey Henry, I know I’m getting old, I miss McDonough the way it used to be. All change is not good.

Hey Henry, let us continue to bask in the love that we witnessed here in McDonough last Sunday at the Andy Davis Art Foundation charity event.

Hey Henry, I want to give a shoutout to my students at ELHS. You really know how to make a teacher feel loved. Love, Mrs. Vessell.

Hey Henry, why does the No U-Turn sign keep disappearing on Hwy. 138 at Speer Road (in front of McDonalds)? It needs to stay there. Driver’s making a U-Turn cause havoc there and no one gets through the light.

Hey Henry, watch out for the high school cheerleaders. I accidentally bumped into one at the McIntosh game and she managed to call me four swear words in about two seconds. I guess the rumor is true, red head tempers are red hot. Seriously, if our teenagers are any hint of our future, I’m grateful that I won’t be alive to endure it.

Hey Henry, the funniest quip ever was that we need transit to become more like “DC, NY, Chicago.” Two days later and I’m still chuckling.

Hey Henry, if you ever wonder why women drivers have so many accidents observe how they drive shopping carts at the grocery store.

Hey Henry, I am loving this fall weather!

Hey Henry - 09.09.15

Hey Henry, contrary to County leadership’s belief that only policemen and firefighters put their lives on the line every day, just today a Henry County DOT worker had his life put in great peril as a careless driver struck a piece of equipment he was driving.

Hey Henry, is there an ordinance prohibiting landscape companies from blowing their cuttings into the middle of the roadways? If not, there should be. The worst offenders are those that keep the grounds maintained at commercial locations. All of the clippings are blown into the middle of the roadway creating a mess and then when it rains, they go down into the culverts and ditches clogging them up. How about raking or bagging?

Hey Henry, to the reader who associates mass transit with the two counties in Atlanta going south: what is wrong with us that we can’t create a mass transit plan that includes options other than pavement, toll lanes and the associated traffic accidents, deaths, and the mass chaos of driving in and around Atlanta every day. It would be nice to live in the 21st century. DC, NY, Chicago and never mind Europe (to name a few) have solutions that work. If you want to blame MARTA or CTS, it seems shortsighted as does the transportation planning here.

Hey Henry, I am a product of those Georgia schools you criticize, but I learned enough to know you could move to 49 other states.

Hey Henry, I voted for those Republicans because they reflect my values. Don’t criticize me because I’m a realist.

Hey Henry, congratulations Ashley on your new addition to the family! From your work family.

Hey Henry, please have Henry County DOT ride down the ramp on exit 222 (75 North) and try to follow those lane change signs. There is a serious accident just waiting to happen.

Hey Henry, Trump says he will build a great wall between the U.S. and Mexico. The Mexicans are very good at tunneling - go figure.

Hey Henry, I just burned 3000 calories. I forgot to take the pizza out of the oven.

Hey Henry, to all the Democrats that think communities are better with Democratic ideologies: you must not watch the news. Baltimore, Ferguson and Chicago are products of a Democratic politically run government. That is why I am no longer a Democrat as they have leaned so far left they have fallen off the deep end into an environment of lawlessness, corruption, moral decay and anti-American attitudes!

Hey Henry, I’m so sorry you got a ticket from the “tag police” for your expired tag. I’m sure the officer did not understand that you were one of the elite that can drive all Ga. roads without paying your tag fee. Please come back to Hampton as soon as you can so the police can give you another ticket and double your fine. Grow up and pay your tag fee on time next year!

Hey Henry, on Saturday, September 5 someone at Outback paid for lunch for my wife and me. I’m not sure if it was because I have to hold her hand due to a stroke and have a balance problem, because I am retired U.S. Navy or because we are 85 years old. They were gone before we knew it. Thank you!

Hey Henry - 09.02.15

Hey Henry, to the person complaining about the chicken on the Square: If a small thing like a stuffed chicken gets you into a rant, then the scarecrow exhibits in October must make you double your Prozac.

Hey Henry, what happened to Saturdays at the ballfield? Instead, so many parents have complained that baseball and softball games have been moved to weeknights so parents could have their weekends free. Really? Kids have school during the week. Move the games back to weekends!

Hey Henry, according to a recent NY Times article, by 2020 there will be 1.5 million computer science jobs in the U.S. that can’t be filled. The reason is less than 35% of high schools even offer classes, and even less offer A/P classes. Georgia ranks last. It’s time school systems start teaching the subjects needed for a big tech world.

Hey Henry, why is it ok for the HR Director of Henry County to refer to it as “Hooterville”? She does not have a problem spending her paycheck. Total disrespect to Henry County and especially all the employees she is employed to represent.

Hey Henry, tequila helps me appreciate the small things in life -- like shot glasses.

Hey Henry, 5.5 million dollars in SPLOST funds to study the possibility of adding another exit to I-75. The people who live in the Kelleytown area have been waiting almost seven years for the Kelleytown Park to be built with SPLOST Four funds and the very first shovel of dirt has never been turned on the project as of today. Come on BOC, get your priorities in order for the citizens of Henry County.

Hey Henry, I’ll agree that few people commit crimes and wait for the bus. But tell me why DeKalb County went south within 10 years of MARTA and Clayton in no time with CCT. And check the crime statistics in the Lenox area prior to and after the MARTA Station opened.

Hey Henry, me again, I posted the post about the blind hill on Airline and Deer Ridge Ct. Well, a sign was put up and we are grateful for it. Problem is, when you leave the 4-way at Turner Church and Airline the speed limit sign says 45 mph. Hidden behind a Mimosa tree is the new sign that says blind hill and 25 mph. Why would you not remove the 45 mph and make that either a 25/35 mph. Everyone is still speeding over the blind hill. We’re risking our lives in McDonough by just trying to pull out on a busy road with a blind hill.

Hey Henry, does Hampton need tag police? If not then why do we have them. Please protect us from criminals and not expired tags.

Hey Henry, the best thing about being over 40 is that we did all those stupid things before the invention of the internet.

Hey Henry, the Republicans have ruined this county with their greedy and selfish political shenanigans. Stop deluding yourself that it is anyone else’s fault.

Hey Henry, a neighbor knocked down a nearby Do Not Enter sign for the second time in less than three years. Will the County give her a prize if she knocks it down a third time?

Hey Henry, the thing about living in a small town is, even when you don’t know what you’re doing, somebody else does.

Hey Henry - 08.26.15

Hey Henry, I would like to thank the Commissioners and the DOT for completing the turn lanes at Hwy. 20 and McDonough Parkway. That has been an awful intersection for a long time. I hope a traffic light is planned for the near future.

Hey Henry, Henry County turning blue might be a good thing? I don’t think so. Case in point - Fulton, Dekalb, Clayton.

Hey Henry, To the idiot in the dark green pick up truck on 8/19/15 at 3 p.m. The 4-way at Lake Dow and Airline Road means that you have to come to a full and complete stop. It does not mean you blow through it doing about 45 to 55 mph. Had someone been there before you, you would have killed them. Is it worth it to you to kill a person or two so you don't have to slow down and stop?

Hey Henry, I believe the poster was referring to the Henry County government when he/she said the Republicans have been in control, not the Federal Government. I don't think the US government controls the local decisions that have put the county in this mess. But in future elections, Henry will be Democratic. So, bye-bye Henry Republicans.

Hey Henry, What’s up with the chicken placed on the corner of Griffin and Jonesboro Streets Saturday. Doesn’t McDonough have enough accidents at that intersection without some person placing a stupid chicken at the pedestrian crosswalk? Aren’t there more exciting things to do in our beautiful city than watch near accidents while people take pictures of a chicken instead of watching the traffic?

Hey Henry, So excited to announce that Sgt. J. Banister and Gloria Rodriguez became engaged on 7/25/15. Congratula-tions!

Hey Henry, Clayton has “little Napoleon,” “Dynamic” DeKalb, St Louis, Chicago, Detroit - don’t forget Atlanta - and the word is - GO BLUE ! Is this a great country or what?

Hey Henry, I told my friend there was actually a life beyond the internet and she should check it out sometime. She asked me to send her a link!

Hey Henry, thanks for finally finishing the 30 foot section of Old Conyers between Stockbridge Middle School and the Publix shopping center. Problem is the crappy paving job will ruin my shocks quicker than the dirt culvert that was there for most of the year. Hire a new paver!

Hey Henry, thanks to Tanger Outlet for providing the beautiful landscaping at the entrance to the mall. Great Job!

Hey Henry, People don’t commit crimes and then wait to catch a MARTA bus or train. Those committing crimes, usually have their own transportation and guess what ... they’re already in Henry County.

Hey Henry, the county should crack down on Clayton County kids being dropped off at school in cars with Clayton County tags. It has gotten totally out of control!

Hey Henry, I, for one, am GLAD we don’t do things here the way you used to do them in Pennsylvania.

Hey Henry, God bless the three Americans and British man who foiled the terror attack in France!

Hey Henry - 08.19.15

Hey Henry, to the person or persons who stole the flag off my mom and dad’s grave in the Locust Grove City Cemetery. God is going to get you.

Hey Henry, to the person saying Henry County will be a blue county and that the Republicans are responsible for all the bad growth, news flash, Democrats have been in office for over 6 years now. Put the blame where it belongs, on the Democrats. And also, Bush has been out of office for over 6 years.

Hey Henry, does anyone in this county know that a solid yellow line on your side of the center means you don’t pass. You can’t even pass a garbage truck doing its job. This also applies to the school bus on Fairview Road that just had to pass the garbage truck! Good thing you didn’t have kids on the bus.

Hey Henry, please do us all a favor and move back to Pennsylvania.

Hey Henry, we have a commissioner whose favorite comment is “I’m not happy.” Well who is he then, Dopey, Grumpy or Sleepy?

Hey Henry, need your help Public Safety. There are too many vehicles with trailers attached with either no lights, those only working at times, no blinkers and not even a license tag to get a number. This includes Henry county public works vehicles. I noticed a fine example yesterday while driving down I-75 at 5:30 a.m. and I came upon a utility trailer with no lights. Drivers, that is terrifying.

Hey Henry, it is not time for MARTA to come to Henry County! Ask any public safety official in Clayton County and they will tell you with MARTA comes higher taxes, increase in crime rate, slower traffic (due to bus stops) and lots of headaches. The majority of citizens in Henry do not want MARTA. If you want MARTA, move to Clayton County!

Hey Henry, can someone please do something about the speeders on Harper Road and Jones Drive. Jones Drive is a dead end road, partially paved, then gravel the remainder. Unreal how fast. Sometimes I wonder if it’s to see how much dust they can stir up. The speed limit on Harper Road is 35 mph. I get tailgated every time I drive on that road. Some help would be appreciated.

Hey Henry, I think we should build a wall between us and Clayton County and then make Clayton pay for it.

Hey Henry, you know that amazing feeling when you get into bed, go straight to sleep, then wake up in the morning feeling fully refreshed and raring to go? Yeah, me neither.

Hey Henry, when I was in the Army, soldiers that were “in the brig” were required to pick up trash along the highway. I think all nonviolent prisoners and able-bodied people on welfare should be required to do the same.

Hey Henry, can someone please tell me what purpose the stop sign serves at the corner of the entry/exit driveway of the McDonough post office parking lot and the adjacent road? People coming out of that parking lot already have a stop sign, so why should people on the main road have to stop too - plus there is a stop light not 50 feet ahead. That’s like putting up stop signs by every business along every major throughfare. Oh, I forgot - the post office is a government building. Never mind - I had a brain cramp.

Hey Henry - 08.12.15

Hey Henry, it’s time to let Henry County vote on joining MARTA.

Hey Henry, take control Henry County and let’s get the county to pick up all the trash and let's pay the county. DeKalb County appears to have a great system that we can copy. This way everyone will have to pay for trash pick up, including furniture.

Hey Henry, parents please, we don’t want to see you in your pajamas at the school. The looks you’re getting are not because people think you look good, it’s because we are disgusted by you!

Hey Henry, when is Henry County Law Enforcement going to get on the same page with other counties and start sending people out to find distracted drivers. I am so tired of nearly being run off the road or being behind people not paying attention because they are so worried about an email, text or facebook post that they just have to read.

Hey Henry, Hampton is now looking for ways to increase the number of businesses downtown. Try this: roll out the red carpet and not the red tape!

Hey Henry, to the person complaining about school starting in August: um, no. Teachers don’t want to go into June. That would create a month of post-testing time. After state mandated and AP tests, students at all levels are done with school. I refuse to babysit your brats for a month of doing nothing.

Hey Henry, ok we get it. Henry County is less desirable than 10 years ago due to a surge in population. It will probably be a “blue” county in the next election, which might be a good thing. After all, the Republicans have been in charge and are the ones to blame for poorly-planned growth.

Hey Henry, are they ever going to move that house on Hwy. 81 East? You know, the one sitting on the tractor trailer for over a year now.

Hey Henry, to the person in the van on Hwy. 155 who was turning right at the post office, I have never seen anyone drive off the road like you did. I sure hope that it was important. I’m sure you messed up your vehicle as it is not meant for off-road.

Hey Henry, is it my imagination or has the traffic going into the McDonough Square gotten worse than ever. No matter what time of the day, it’s backed up almost to the RR track. My fondest wish is that whoever changed the traffic system get stuck in it everyday.

Hey Henry, I think it is so unfortunate that we can’t visit Henry County libraries on the weekend with our kids. We shouldn’t have to drive to Rockdale.

Hey Henry, having moved here from PA over 5 years ago I’m astonished at the lack of basic knowledge of the “rules of the road.” Our auto insurance rates are higher than average because of it. The worst of it is that the police, who should be setting the example, fail to do so. Following them I see failure to use turn signals, failure to have their headlights (not DRL’s) on in the rain, tailgating, driving in the left lane but not in the act of passing, failure to indicate a lane change and speeding but, not in a pursuit. Even texting. Want lower insurance premiums and less accidents? Then our police should start setting the example and enforcing the laws.

Hey Henry - 08.05.15

Hey Henry, congratulations to the Henry County Special Athletes who are competing in the World Games, and to the coaches that work with them year round. Social media has been lit up with pictures of you guys and gals. We’re all beaming with pride for you and for all of the athletes that compete all year long.

Hey Henry, to the Henry County Commissioners who think there is no reason to widen the county roads as long as you can move on interstate 75. The interstate runs north and south and the roads that the county needs to widen for the biggest part run east and west. Build it and they will come!

Hey Henry, school opened on August 3, the middle of the summer. Can we have our summers back, please? Let’s start a few weeks later. June is cooler than August. The families and teachers will thank you!

Hey Henry, to the entitled person who wants Walt Stephens Road designated as their own private road, thanks so much for the belly laugh! I pray that you haven’t slid so far off the chart that you really meant this! Welcome to the real world of rush hour traffic. Work overtime or stay home during this period. We built you a bridge and a Dollar Store! What more do you expect?

Hey Henry, I’ll call my phone a “smart phone” when I yell “Where’s my dang phone?” and it replies, “Here I am, behind the couch cushions.”

Hey Henry, I do not condone disposing of furniture on any road, but Henry County should have the county pick up all trash to include furniture. The contracted companies that pick up household garbage charge extremely high fees to pick up a sofa.

Hey Henry, it is admirable to champion the cause of wild animals, until one of those wild animals stalks you as a food source, and then your philosophic opinion changes rapidly.

Hey Henry, we really need a right hand turn lane at Hwy. 42 and Campground Road.

Hey Henry, did you know that Leguin Mill Road in Locust Grove is an extension of the Atlanta Motor Speedway? People race way over the speed limit all times of the day trying to set a record! Now that school is back in session, I hope the police will catch and ticket those that think they own race cars!

Hey Henry, I was at a local restaurant with my grandbabies the other day. Two girls came out of the playground saying a boy had hit them and they left with their mother. When my grandson came out I asked him if anyone hit him. He said a boy had hit and kicked him in the stomach. As we were getting ready to leave the mother of the mean boy said, “I guess we better leave, the parents are not happy my son is hitting their children.” This really blew me away. Their son is growing into a future bully and they don’t have a problem with that? I can’t get over some parents these days.

Hey Henry, to those of you blowing your horn at Airline Road and Deer Ridge Court: we cannot see you when you are coming over the hill. Those of us on Deer Ridge Court do not have x-ray vision. So get a grip and be polite and be smart enough to know we are not pulling out in front of you on purpose. It is a huge blind spot. We have complained to everyone. The county should have a “blind drive” sign right after the 4-way stop at Turner Church and Airline Road. To those of you who blow through that 4-way, knock it off! Your going to get someone killed!

Hey Henry - 07.29.15

Hey Henry, I would like to give a big thank you to the Henry County Sheriff’s Department for the Summer Camp they provide for our young people each summer. My niece and several of her friends have attended several times and it was both informative and fun.

Hey Henry, parents, please put your kids on the bus this year! It is not worth the stress of car rider lines, traffic, or being late for your job! The kids will get to class on time, eat breakfast and not start the day off with so much stress.

Hey Henry, I can’t believe I’m actually saying this but Donald Trump is the best chance we have for repairing the damage done to this country by the weakest President we’ve had since Jimmy Carter.

Hey Henry, a family in Henry County purchased new furniture. I know this because, again, they dumped their old furniture off of King Mill Road.

Hey Henry, do the parents in Henry County know the school buses do not have air conditioning?

Hey Henry, Representative Holmes, please do something about Walt Stephens Road. The traffic is awful. If the interstate is stopped, the traffic is bumper to bumper and it’s impossible and unsafe for the residents who live on the road to get out onto Walt Stephens or turn into their neighborhoods. People who do not live in the area need to stop cutting through, it just causes traffic nightmares on secondary roads.

Hey Henry, if you are a high ranking member of a church preaching against sin, should you own a couple businesses that require liquor licenses and sell alcohol?

Hey Henry, anyone who wastes their vote and support on someone like the joke who is Trump is a joke as well.

Hey Henry, did anyone else hear that they are building a fence around the monument in the middle of the Square in McDonough? A confederate monument surrounded by a fence? Is it jail? Not kidding, they really are doing it.

Hey Henry, to all the drivers that pass by my house who must have heard my cardiologist tell me to get more exercise and are trying to help. Walking, bending, lifting and carrying all the beer and soft drink cans, bottles and cups, not to mention the sacks, papers and french fry cups and other items including Maggie’s drawers tossed into my yard and the roadway for me to pick up. Somehow I don’t think this is what he had in mind. Next time you feel the need to clean the trash from your car, dispose of it properly. I’m tired of cleaning up after you.

Hey Henry, if someone is trying to get out in traffic and they don’t have their blinker on I never let them out. It’s just my rule.

Hey Henry, to those who think their southern heritage is being purged by denouncing the Confederate flag I would like to ask ... do you see the German people proudly displaying the Nazi flag anywhere other than museums? Get a grip, your ancestors fought to preserve a way of life that was wrong. And, by the way, they lost. Why publicize to everyone your ancestors were ‘losers’?

Hey Henry, for all those worrying that Henry is the next Clayton, no need to fret. It’s already happened. We sold our home in Henry and moved to Clayton. We got a better, bigger home with less taxes. Plus, my commute time was cut in half.

Hey Henry - 07.22.15

Hey Henry, twenty years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs. Now we have no cash, no hope and no jobs. Please don’t let Kevin Bacon die!

Hey Henry, I want the people who are illegally dumping garbage on Selfridge Road to know they are not very photogenic, but I have some great shots of them in the act, their trucks, and tag numbers. Maybe touring the county in an orange jumper picking up garbage will teach you not to dump on other people’s property! How does a year in jail and up to $2,500 in fines sound? Hope it was worth it. Next time find a dumpster!

Hey Henry, I have been reading the comments concerning Henry becoming the next Clayton county, and agree, it’s not how it used to be and is going down the tubes a little more everyday. My question is, how do we fix this problem? We can’t just pull up stakes and move once this county is ruined. I’ve had to move and start over once, don’t want to do it again.

Hey Henry, a diverging diamond in Henry County? That should be a riot. Four-way stops and roundabouts are challenges enough for drivers here.

Hey Henry, it’s going to get awfully noisy when they start jackhammering the Confederate memorials on all of the town squares in the South.

Hey Henry, those people who say I don’t exercise enough, have never seen me trying to pull on a pair of jeans just after I’ve taken them out of the dryer.

Hey Henry, I’d just like to reassure anyone concerned with our Confederate Monument on the Square. It is protected under the 2003 Georgia flag law. It’s not going anywhere.

Hey Henry, some people fail to realize that “innocent until proven guilty” actually means something! Don’t forget the Golden Rule!

Hey Henry, to all the people on Regency Park Drive trying to turn left onto Hwy. 20, there is a traffic light on the other end of that road.

Hey Henry, my wife and I had a lot of books to donate, but Henry County libraries are always closed on Saturday. We called the Butts County library who are always open on Saturday. They were happy to take our donations.

Hey Henry, during the most recent terrorist attack on two military locations in Chattanooga that resulted in the tragic death of four marines, it was a police officer that neutralized the criminal because our military personnel at these locations were not allowed to carry weapons. When will this country wake up to reality. Whether it’s a church, movie theater or restaurant, I suggest we ban spending our money in these locations. They don’t understand the value and life saving possibilities of having legally licensed and background cleared, gun carrying citizens silently within their establishments. Let them all sit there as soft targets and fend for themselves.

Hey Henry, a very special thank you to the Henry County Police Officer who assisted my husband on Saturday with a push to get his motorcycle started on Hwy. 81, in front of Advanced Auto Parts. We cannnot thank you enough for the service you give to our county.

Hey Henry - 07.15.15

Hey Henry, thank you Tony Johnsey, store manager at the Lake Dow Publix, for many year of excellent customer service and community support. You will be missed. We all wish you well.

Hey Henry, how are you supposed to shop and keep tax dollars in the county when there is no mall or high end merchants.

Hey Henry, people are so attached to their phones now, pretty soon I expect to see two people sitting side by side texting instead of talking face to face.

Hey Henry, the recent legalization of the use of fireworks in Georgia was a really dumb idea. Did they take into consideration what it does to a dog or a war vet suffering from PTSD? No! My poor dog was stressed and panting so hard as fireworks were set off in our subdivision which sounded like a war zone. Fireworks are dangerous and should never have been legalized. Try consoling a dog for hours or talking to a vet who jumped every time a firework was set off. Stop the sale of fireworks immediately.

Hey Henry, when Andy (Davis) was a small boy around 9 or 10 years old he was always drawing something. It had to be perfect and he would ask me____ is this good? He would be on my door step with a new drawing almost every morning. This was his love at his young age. When you look to the heavens and see an angel’s face or the face of God, that’s Andy doing what he loves. May he rest in peace.

Hey Henry, the last few years the McDonough Public Library has seen decreased funding leading to reduced hours, etc. However, that does not affect the spirit of those that work and volunteer there. Debbie Zurkel and the staff on Thursday, July 9 had scores of excited kids in the library involved in a set of “Superhero” activities. Imagine having fun in the library during summer vacation! Our public library is truly a gem in our community.

Hey Henry, it is official. If you don’t like history simply change it to suit yourself.

Hey Henry, none of our schools were on the worst in the state list, a shooting in the county is still a rarity, our public safety departments do a great job and construction has begun again. This isn’t the place I moved into 22 years ago, but it is still rather nice.

Hey Henry, did you know that the city of McDonough (the only city in the county that taxes it citizens) uses the Water and Sewer fund to pay for projects not part of water and sewer? The point of water money should be improvement of the system and services for water and sewer. However, our habit is to use it for a slush fund. We are taking $500,000 from the Water and Sewer Reserves to help pay for the new court house? How many other projects are funded this way? So, you must be overpaying for water services. Since 2012 the city now raises your water rates if the county raises theirs regardless if they need the money for water. Now they want a millage rate increase. Didn’t they just raise the commercial water rates? Sounds like an increase to me.

Hey Henry, when did the Salvation Army become the designated local dumping ground for furniture no one wants, nor wants to take responsibility for. There should be cameras there and those caught dumping their trash and furniture not fit to bring in the house, should be prosecuted and fined! Large fines!

Hey Henry - 07.08.15

Hey Henry, regarding the comment about Henry becoming another Clayton, I totally agree but your second sentence said it all. How do you think those of us that were born and raised here feel? You, my friend, who moved here for your slower pace of life is exactly what started ours to decline.

Hey Henry, how about the religious organizations deal with love inside their walls before they try to define love for the nation. God loves all people and He’s the judge.

Hey Henry, it has begun; the purging of our southern history. My ancestors settled the Henry County area in the late 1700’s. I have two ancestors who fought for the Confederacy. They were poor tenant farmers and were for many more generations to come. The liberal media, social activists and left wing politicians want me to denounce my heritage and ancestors. Are they willing to denounce theirs?

Hey Henry, I don’t understand the custom of someone not understanding that a husband is proud of you as a mother and vice versa. You are raising his/your child with him. He is and should be appreciative of you.

Hey Henry, the other day I was driving to Conyers going up Hwy. 20 and apparently I was not going fast enough for the guy behind me. There was a line of traffic in front of me and they passed me on a double yellow line on a curve. Another car was coming at him so he whipped his car in front of me. Well, when that line of traffic reached the traffic light at 212 and 20, I was making a left hand turn. So I passed the guy who passed me on the double yellow line. Of course I tooted my horn as I passed the idiot and went on my merry way as he sat at the light.

Hey Henry, to the young lady who flipped me off after she almost ran into me in the Publix parking lot on Hwy. 155, you are the epitome of what is going wrong in this country today. Your self-centered rudeness and lack of respect should make your parents really proud.

Hey Henry, sure hope the BOC puts a local time limit on when fireworks can be done. I mean, 2 a.m. on holidays? Some of us have to work the next day whether it’s a weekend or not.

Hey Henry, in spite of what people are saying, I don’t believe that the cooler temperatures we had last week were the result of the McDonough Post Office leaving their doors opened all week with the AC running.

Hey Henry, I think we should use some tax money and hire a mercenary to deal with the people who leave items out in front of the Salvation Army after hours. They know it’s wrong yet they do it anyway.

Hey Henry, to all Clayton County residents pulling onto Jodeco Road from Hudson Bridge Road, that triangular-shaped, red and white sign is known as a “yield” sign. It means you have to slow down and allow oncoming traffic to proceed before you do.

Hey Henry, congratulations to the U.S. Women’s Soccer team on their victory! USA!

Hey Henry, a big thank you to the person who paid for dinner for the “old white haired lady” at a restaurant in Locust Grove on Memorial Day weekend.

Hey Henry - 07.01.15

Hey Henry, does anyone know what happened to the permanent substitute from HCMS, Mr. Rex? This would have been around 93-94. He made a profound difference in my life and I have always wanted to thank him.

Hey Henry, how is it when you have tomato plants in pots, on a second floor deck, that those big green worms are able to find and get to the plants to eat them up?

Hey Henry, the bad news is that China and India, the world’s largest polluters with 2 billion people to feed, will never cut back on industrial output--no matter what they say or sign. If the global warming people are right, then it is too late to do anything.

Hey Henry, as a white man, who was married to a beautiful lady of color, that passed in 2010, I wish the BOC would pass a resolution condemning the killings in the church in South Carolina. Also they should praise the states that have proposed the removal of the confederate flag from state property. It has become a symbol of hate and white supremacy in my opinion.

Hey Henry, I think Google is definitely a woman. It doesn’t let you finish a sentence without suggesting other ideas.

Hey Henry, I love irony as much as the next person, but to state that you moved here for the slower pace, then complain that too many people are doing the same is just ridiculous. Are you Native American? Did your house sprout from the seeds of native trees? No? You moved here from somewhere else, into a home that at some point was new construction. Either get involved in ways that improve quality of life for all, or quit complaining.

Hey Henry, if you think there are “mass killings” of any group in this country, you are a testimonial to effectiveness of what currently passes for news reporting. By the way, most of the killings of young people in this society are perpetrated by their own kind.

Hey Henry, the problem in America, is not guns, or flags, the problem is stupidity, a lack of compassion, and understanding. It is parents who bring their children up as toys, instead of responsible people, who give too much and teach too little, and pass their own prejudices down to their children. Who fail to accomplish, and blame others, and children who think they must be taught what they want to learn in school instead of learning what is taught, unable, or not knowing that they must supplement their schooling themselves by doing research in libraries on subjects they want to know about. It is not up to others to supply a lifestyle, a career, it is up to each individual to seek it out and learn on one’s own. It is not about color it is about knowledge. And, it is always the innocent who suffer the stupidity of the evil others act out.

Hey Henry, to the driver that hit our fence on North Ola Road just over the Walnut Creek bridge on June 18, we would have appreciated if you had stopped and let us know you were responsible for tearing up our fence and yard and we know there has to be damage to your vehicle as we found your mirror! Maybe driving too fast as so many people do. North Ola Road is not a race track. The speed limit is 45. Please slow down.

Hey Henry, to the folks camped at Wise Creek Landing, please read the signs and don’t put your tents in the middle of the horse trail. If you’re gonna come to the country don’t act like you’re in the city.

Hey Henry - 06.24.15

Hey Henry, one particular Commissioner loves to recognize the police department every chance he gets at meetings. How about some of the other Commissioners do the same for other departments who go above and beyond. For instance, how about the Sheriffs Office whose deputies put their lives on the line every day serving warrants and keeping the courts and schools safe. How about the DOT workers who worked through the entire weekend to repair Weems road and never closed the road while major repairs were done. Even the DOT Division Director was on site in the muddy trench with a shovel working side by side with his employees.

Hey Henry, to the person using Facebook to laugh at their “friend’s” lives, did you seriously say that? You’re using Facebook to laugh at other people who use Facebook. Wow. You need to get a life.

Hey Henry, an ounce of “prevention” should be the parents yet they are the main reason the teens are this way. They let their kids do whatever they want whenever they want, and when they are arrested, the parents say “my little angel would never do that.” Maybe we should have family detention facilities.

Hey Henry, thanks for the up-and-coming new pond in McDonough at Veterans Way. It’s going to be wonderful for all to walk around. Any idea why the block wall between the pond and the courthouse can’t be knocked down to beautify that corner as well?

Hey Henry, with all these mass killings by young people, there is obviously something very wrong in this country.

Hey Henry, I don’t understand the custom of spouses buying one another Mother’s and Father’s day presents.

Hey Henry, why has that red suv been sitting at Hwy. 138/Moseley Road broken down with no tag for 5 weeks? That is a major road so it’s not like no one saw it!

Hey Henry, I’m melting!

Hey Henry, I guess the new ‘fad’ in McDonough is to have a yard sale, cover it with a tarp and then leave it in your yard for weeks. Please put away or donate your unsold items and don’t trash McDonough!

Hey Henry, 79 years ago the temperature was 3 degrees hotter than today, selah! So much for the climate debate.

Hey Henry, when I say “the other day,” it can mean any time between yesterday and last year.

Hey Henry, I agree that Henry is quickly becoming another Clayton. Most of us moved here for a slower pace of life. But that has been changed forever by the overbuilding, influx of new residents, traffic, and higher crime rates.

Hey Henry, it’s sad when it takes so long to convict a killer that is obviously guilty. I think they should only get to file one appeal. Then it’s off to death row.

Hey Henry, I don’t think Taylor Swift is a talented musician, however she is one tough cookie when it comes to business.

Hey Henry, The Beatles said it best, “all you need is love!”

Hey Henry - 06.17.15

Hey Henry, every time I go into the McDonough Post Office, the line is out the door. It’s particularly bad at noon. I think y’all might need to hire some folks or at least stagger the lunches a bit more. There was only one person assisting customers at the main line today at noon. Just my two cents.

Hey Henry, heads up taxpayers of McDonough! A budget hearing is coming up and your tax rate will depend on the outcome. For what you might ask - Don’t be surprised to hear the two step about public safety. No one disagrees with that but what about a new municipal court building where they keep adding things. Never mind it should have been done when it was on the SPLOST list. If it wasn’t important to do it when it was on the list, why are we now doing it out of the general fund which affects your tax rate. BTW, they are placing a new water rate in place for businesses without an impact study on business or prices you pay. It is on the consent agenda which means no discussion.

Hey Henry, I would unfriend some people on Facebook ... but I enjoy laughing at their lives!

Hey Henry, has anyone else noticed how many cars never fully stop at the 4-way stop sign located at Georgia Highway 20 and Eastlake Road? It’s amazing.

Hey Henry, only in Stockbridge are tree limbs piled on the sidewalk blocking usage and the City says their chipper truck can only operate for 10 - 15 minutes and it will take several trips to clean up. So much for the “Don’t Trash Stockbridge” campaign.

Hey Henry, did anyone else see the strange lights in the sky?

Hey Henry, I understand that the police and courts are too busy to deal with misdemeanors yet the teens who continue to commit misdemeanors now will soon be adults committing felonies. An ounce of “prevention” is worth a pound of “cure.”

Hey Henry, the way the government and elected officials in Henry are bickering and nitpicking with each other, we will be another Clayton County in 5 years. I know most say it will take 10 years, but I lived through it in Clayton and I say 5 at most.

Hey Henry, I went for a jog and came back after a minute because I forgot something. I forgot that I’m fat and can’t jog for more than a minute.

Hey Henry, I attended the Memorial Day March in Stockbridge for the first time this year. It was nice to see the community come together to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Perhaps the ceremony in the cemetery could be held in the park so participants could avoid the chiggers/red bugs.

Hey Henry, working at my job is part of my get-rich-slow scheme.

Hey Henry, my biggest problem with SPLOST is that it funds new construction but from then on everything else is paid for out of the general budget.

Hey Henry, this must be the summer of mushrooms. Those things are everywhere!

Hey Henry, Rachel Dolezal must have watched Soul Man too many times.

Hey Henry - 06.10.15

Hey Henry, I’m not arguing, I’m just explaining why I’m right.

Hey Henry, I want to thank Eric at Best Bank in Kroger for rescuing the chicken. You looked at the chicken as having a heart instead of being dinner.

Hey Henry, I’d like to thank all the disrespectful people at the Locust Grove High School graduation that got up and left as soon as their children’s names were announced. We missed seeing ours getting her diploma since so many people were getting up to leave.

Hey Henry, recently the tithe and offerings at our church have been down. So low in fact, that our Pastor decided not to accept his weekly salary, but to accept love offerings from the congregation. This past week he received $135. Isn’t that a compassionate “love offering” from over 700 members?

Hey Henry, a recent news report stated that Henry County employees will receive a 3% raise this July. Why doesn’t the City of McDonough follow suit? The City of McDonough folows the County on other things such as water rate increases so why not give their employees a raise? I’m pretty sure the employees haven’t received a raise in years. Wake up Mayor, Council and City Administrator!

Hey Henry, there is only one religion that regularly demonstrates “militant piety.” Christians, Hindus and Buddhists do not lock people in churches and set them on fire, behead innocents, kidnap children, forbid educating females or destroy historical relics. How narrow minded can a person be in lumping us all in the same group?

Hey Henry, I am as offended as anyone when I see the American Flag being burned by some protestor. But isn’t this exactly the kind of political “speech” our Bill of Rights is there to protect? It’s not there just to protect speech we agree with but also speech we disagree with. And as long as they only burn a flag that belongs to themselves, anyone who interferes is committing theft aren’t they? And anyway wouldn’t we rather have these folks out in the open where we can watch them?

Hey Henry, my bank has a new service where they’ll text you your balance. I just don’t think they should add LOL on the end!

Hey Henry, as I sit in the line at Ola Elementary, I just want to say: after I pick up my grandbaby and leave please don’t race in front of me. You will not get where you are going any sooner than I will. Not to mention your children are leaning from your rude actions. Don’t you think it would be smarter to teach your children manners and wait your turn?

Hey Henry, stop taking yourselves so seriously, people. If you can’t laugh at yourself, give me a call.

Hey Henry, save the earth! It’s our only source of chocolate!

Hey Henry, on Friday a person at a traffic light threw trash out of their window. They had a Spalding tag and I have most of their tag number. Please don’t litter on our roads. You never know who is watching you.

Hey Henry, poor Pluto, first it loses its status as a planet, now it has wobbly moons.

Hey Henry - 06.03.15

Hey Henry, if we’re not supposed to have midnight snacks, why is there a light in the refrigerator?

Hey Henry, McDonough/Henry County really needs a YMCA. Is there anything in the works?

Hey Henry, I hate 4-way stops!

Hey Henry, I want to thank the people of Henry county for donating money at our veterans support group’s recent “Vets4 Vets” fund drive at Town Center on Jonesboro road. They really showed their support and opened up their billfolds for a very good cause. Over 100% of what they gave goes to the cause because the group donated before asking the community. Absolutely no one in the group is paid or profits in any way except for the satisfaction and honor of helping our vets.

Hey Henry, I have nothing against bicycle riders; however, I think it should be done in a safe area and not on unsafe roads or busy highways. Two places that come to mind are Chambers Road running between Mt. Carmel Road and Hwy 81. This stretch of Chambers Road is nothing but curves. There is no safe way for a car to pass the riders. Some riders use the middle of the driving lane. It also seems unsafe for them to use Hwy. 81 since it is such a busy highway. I think this is a fatal accident waiting to happen.

Hey Henry, the truly educated never graduate.

Hey Henry, one of the most amazing developments of the twentieth century has been the emergence within every major religion of a militant piety. What is so troubling is that they seem so opposed to many of the most positive values of modern society. They have little time for democracy, pluralism, religious tolerance, free speech, or for that matter, separation of church and state.

Hey Henry, I want to wish my wife, Michelle Kimbell, a happy 40th birthday! I love you honey and I’m grateful for all you do for us!

Hey Henry, why can’t we get some lines painted on Patrick Henry Parkway. After dark or when it’s raining it’s hard to see which side you’re driving on.

Hey Henry, do you not realize that marriage used to be a ceremony administered by churches, and the state used to have nothing to do with it?

Hey Henry, anyone who thinks any politician is ‘clean as a whistle’ is out of their mind.

Hey Henry, County churches: I would be grateful if you would have more Southern Gospel concerts at your churches. I understand the expense and would not mind having to pay a required admission fee. Churches in the South seem not to have as many Southern Gospel groups as they used to in the past.

Hey Henry, a big thank you to the Henry County Police Department and Henry County Sheriff’s department for doing a wonderful job at the Union Grove Graduation on Friday night. They got everyone in and out so fast! Great Job!

Hey Henry, I agree with the reader who said if you don’t have a certain last name, you’re not accepted in Henry. Most of us “outsiders” could care less about anyone’s last name, or how long they've lived in this backward little county. I moved here for one reason only, to get out of Clayton County. As far as a “family friendly” community, the North Ga. mountains are the place to be.

Hey Henry - 05.27.15

Hey Henry, sometimes you have to burn a few bridges to keep the crazy people from following you!

Hey Henry, a special shout out to all the weathermen who blew the weather forecast last Saturday and Sunday. I cancelled plans because you called for storms on both days. And you did this for the entire week before. And it wasn’t just one forecast, it was every one I checked. Are you just guessing? Because it turned out to be beautiful both days. Not a cloud in the sky.

Hey Henry, these fast food drive-thrus where two lanes merge into one are not only useless, they are also road-rage opportunities.

Hey Henry, growing up in Henry County, if you didn’t have certain last family names, you didn’t belong. It’s the same today. Nothing changes, we just get older and never really belong. I guess it’s that way everywhere.

Hey Henry, when interstate gridlock forces you to use Jodeco Road to reach your destination, causing a similar bumper-to-bumper situation on Jodeco Road, please have mercy on the folks who live in that area. Often it is practically impossible for us to even get onto Jodeco Road from our residential streets between Noah’s Ark and Eagles Landing/Hudson Bridge Road. Your graciously taking perhaps ten extra seconds to allow us into the line of traffic would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey Henry, I just read about the Tennessee family that used 187 million dollars intended for cancer charities for personal use. It makes you wonder with all these charities out here, how often is it just an unregulated free-for-all?

Hey Henry, thank you, Mr. President, for vetoing the pipeline to carry Canadian oil to the gulf coast to be shipped overseas, especially since the big oil spill in California.

Hey Henry, if our government forced churches to marry same sex couples (which is illegal), guess who would never recognize the reunion? Yep, God. God would never recognize the marriage. Only one man and one woman. Makes sense. But with that said, this is the USA, and our laws state that we all have the exact same rights, equal rights for all. So if same sex couples want to get married, then go for it. Just not in the church! The church is reserved for one man and one woman.

Hey Henry, the government doesn’t supervise or enforce regulations on the oil companies. Nothing gets done until the ocean is full of oil. In this case, hindsight is worth nothing.

Hey Henry, my daughter goes to Flippen Elementary and is in the 4th grade. I want to thank the teacher who bought her a set of books because she was, “excited to see her improvement in reading levels.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen her more proud or love a teacher more. We’re going to miss you next year!

Hey Henry, we need to start a Driver’s 101 campaign since it seems so many drivers have forgotten the rules of the road. Let’s begin with driving on the right side of the road!

Hey Henry, flattery is like chewing gum. Chew it, but don’t swallow it.

Hey Henry, on the subject of marriage: either God is right and man is wrong. Or man is right and God is wrong. It is not debatable!

Hey Henry - 05.20.15

Hey Henry, hey parents, there’s nothing wrong with teaching your kids about that thing called “tradition.” It should be respected, not trampled on.

Hey Henry, can we ask probation officers to stop simply requiring students to attend school? They sit here with bad attitudes and refuse to do anything. Require them to keep an 80% average in all classes so they can graduate and move on with their lives! I have too many 18+ year old students in 9th grade classes that show up only for probation purposes!

Hey Henry, I’ve stopped saying “how stupid can you be?” to my co-workers. They’re starting to take it as a challenge.

Hey Henry, I am not aware of any case where the Federal Government has attempted to force any church to marry any couples, regardless of age, sex, race or persuasion. The Federal Government is considering whether or not to force the States to recognize nontraditional marriages. I think churches are far more active getting into the States business than the other way around.

Hey Henry, during the county budget meeting this week commissioners were complaining about grass in the right-of-way not being cut and by the end of the meeting they were talking about keeping fund balance at 25% and possible elimination of employees. Well, Commissioners Holmes and Prince better get a push lawn mower and start cutting the right-of-way.

Hey Henry, I got up, put on my clothes and brushed my teeth. What more do you want?

Hey Henry, the students at Hickory Flat Charter Elementary started a fund drive a few weeks back for new playground equipment that would be added in about two years or so. Last week someone came out and condemned the playground citing safety issues. So how is an elementary school supposed to conduct recess without playground equipment for that period of time? And how many other schools are going to be in the same boat? This should be part of the budgeting process.

Hey Henry, just wanted to say a big thank you to the football team from Strong Rock Christian School, coach Tommy and Pastor Warren Green from Glen Haven Baptist Church, for donating over 60 hours to Habitat for Humanity. It’s so rare to hear about teens doing something positive for their community and helping people who can use a helping hand. It is evident that they live what they believe.

Hey Henry, let’s clean up after our dogs when we are at the Salem Baptist Church park. They are nice enough to let us use their beautiful park, let’s follow the rules. Everyone saw the jogging woman let her dog off the leash and not clean up after him in the field. She will ruin it for everyone.

Hey Henry, when did being a Democrat equate with being shiftless and not paying taxes? I am a lifelong Democrat and resident of Henry County. I worked for the government for forty years and paid taxes the entire time. I am still paying taxes and am not using “your” money. If your insurance premiums have gone up you should talk to your employer to see if the are paying their fair share and not pocketing the difference.

Hey Henry, people in Walmart must think they have traveled to England. They don’t know which side of the aisle to walk on. Hint: it’s the right side, just like driving a car.

Hey Henry - 05.13.15

Hey Henry, Kathy Henderson and other plant lovers: saw your article about those poor plants in LG. That’s not us, but Crape Murder happened on our lawn too. We didn’t do it! The lawn maintenance company will never work for us again. When we looked outside, all of the once beautiful trees had become ugly sticks. Our hearts are broken. Shame on the crew and especially their manager, who had left!

Hey Henry, I miss you. After 26 years, I moved and even though you are becoming quite crowded ... Dorothy once said “there is no place like home.”

Hey Henry, a special thank you to Community Service for picking up the discarded tires on John R Williams Road. The careless and reckless dumping of tires not only ruined the view of nature’s splendor, but put the neighborhood at risk of diseases spread by mosquitoes breeding in the tires.

Hey Henry, to the Vietnam veteran who spoke up for our flag. Just one word for you ... amen! Oh, and thank you for your service. I guess that was more than one word.

Hey Henry, in regard to handicapped parking and inadequate ramps at schools. Recommend that all with a concern take a look at the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations (on the internet) for information and then call the ADA Coordinator for Henry County. Have them look at the locations of concern. If they are not in compliance with ADA directives, they can do something about it to help make sure no one gets hurt. I fully agree, frequently jurors are disabled and need handicap parking near the Courthouse. Tell the Judge.

Hey Henry, no-one is trying to force any church to marry same sex couples. The current case would require the government to recognize same sex marriages which could be performed by a judge. Proposed legislation specifically states that churches do not have to perform same sex marriages.

Hey Henry, I think that when the court awards someone a judgement to collect money owed, if the party doesn’t pay in 30 days their name should be published in the paper. As of now their is really no recourse. People would be amazed by who owes what.

Hey Henry, went to Nashville recently. I made a stop at the Johnny Cash Museum and listened to him sing “This Grand Old Flag.” I say a big amen to the vet who wrote last week. If you don’t like this country, leave. There are flights out every day.

Hey Henry, a huge thank you to the kind gentleman who appeared out of nowhere to assist my husband who fell against the building at Captain D’s on February 24. We didn’t get his name but if he reads this he will know it’s him. Again sir, you were my Angel that day. Thanks again.

Hey Henry, the BOC is debating a driveway entrance from a site on King Mill Road. I am not an engineer, but seems to me the way to stop 18 wheeler’s from turning left would be to install a height barrier to prevent them from turning left. This talk about trucks with dual rear wheels, and making the left turn lane narrower is stupid. They are over-thinking a simple problem to fix. This isn’t rocket science! Good grief.

Hey Henry, to all the bicyclists in Henry County: you have to obey the laws of the road too. I saw one blow through the stop sign at Lake Iris Road. Didn’t even slow down. You have to share the road!
