A film production crew will take over a parking area in downtown McDonough on a Saturday in December after an agreement was approved by the Henry County Board of Commissioners at its Oct. 20 regular meeting.

According to county staff documents, “Universal Studios has requested the use of two parking lots and the parking deck located behind the judicial buildings north and northeast of the McDonough Square, together with access to and egress from the premises as a base camp where they can park their trucks, store and stage their equipment and set up their catering to serve the cast and crew in connection with the production.”

The producers of the film have agreed to pay the county $3,000 for the day (Dec. 13).

The name of the film is “A Meyers Christmas” and a county spokesperson said various scenes will be filmed around McDonough.

The resolution authorizing the agreement states that Henry County “would like to capture its share of the Georgia film/TV production spending which has generated nearly $6 billion in the state in 2015.”

The company listed on the lease agreements is Meyers Family Films LLC of Atlanta.

According to an Oct. 5 article in the Hollywood Reporter, “A Meyers Christmas” is being directed and written by David E. Talbert, who also wrote and directed “Baggage Claim.” Gabrielle Union is tabbed as a star and an executive producer of the film, “which centers on an estranged family who is brought together over Christmas for the first time since their mother's passing,” according to the article. A separate piece in the same publication stated that Danny Glover will also star in the production.

The film is billed as a “holiday-themed family comedy.” It is scheduled for nationwide release in theaters Nov. 11, 2016.
