Thomas Roy Wise
Thomas Roy (Tom) Wise of McDonough, Ga., and High-lands, N.C. died October 6, 2015. Tom was born December 9, 1937 in Thomasville, Ga., to the late Mildred S. and Lee Roy Wise. He was reared on Green-wood Plantation where his father worked for the John Hay Whitney family of New York for 40 years. Following graduation from Thomasville High School, he graduated cum laude from Presbyterian College, Clinton, S.C., with a BA in History. He attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., with an emphasis in Christian Education. He served two years as Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church in LaGrange, Ga. He moved to Charlotte, N.C. and worked for three years for his wife’s family business, Home Realty and Management Company. In 1965 he returned to Georgia and began a 32 year career in banking with the Citizens and Southern Bank and later retiring from NationsBank in 1997 as a Vice President of Operations. Prior to his transferring to McDonough in 1984 he spent 16 years at the C&S Bank in Newnan, Ga. He was active in community affairs serving as President of the Newnan Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Newnan Coweta United Way and President of the Rotary Club of Newnan. In 1972 he was named Young Man of the Year. Moving to McDonough in 1984 he continued his civic involvement. He served as Charter President of the Rotary Club of Henry County, Chairman of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the United Way of Henry County, member of the Finance Committee of Henry Medical Center and member of the Special Events Committee of the Henry Medical Center Foundation. Long active in the McDonough Presbyterian Church, he served as ruling Elder, Clerk of the Session, Sunday school teacher and founding chairman of the Endowment Committee. Tom was a member of the Marquis deLafayette Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. Tom had two great passions-music and gardening. He was an accomplished pianist and always enjoyed sing-a-longs with family and friends. He also enjoyed singing and was active in the Presbyterian Church Chancel choirs of McDonough and Highlands. He sang with the McDonough Presbyterian Men’s Chorus and the Highlands Men’s Chorale. He became a Master Gardener in 2000 and also served as President of the Henry County organization. In 2010 he received the Lifetime Master Gardener designation. Although he loved all types of plants and flowers, roses were his favorites. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce A Wise and Jane Wise Sammons.

Survivors are his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Dottie) Henderson Wise, sons Thomas Henderson Wise (Suzanne) of Anderson, S.C., Roy Irwin (Winn) Wise (Kim) of Newnan, Ga., and daughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) Wise Wood (Rich) of McDonough and seven grandchildren, Griffin, Whitner, Maggie and Preston Wise and John-Thomas, Sarah and Patrick Wood. Also a nephew, Charles M. Everett (Gale) of Thomasville, Ga., and grandnieces Asayla, Madison and nephew, Drew Everett.

Memorial services were held at McDonough Presbyterian Church on Saturday October 10, 2015. A private interment followed in the Resurrection Garden of the church. Nancy Dickson Snelling
Mrs. Nancy Dickson Snelling, age 82, of McDonough, Ga., passed away October 6, 2015. Nancy was born in Jacksonville, Fla., the daughter of the late Margaret Tweedell Dickson and Gordon Eugene Dickson. Nancy attended Brenau College in Gainesville, the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia, which is now known as Georgia State. She worked for ten years in personnel placement and ten years in office management. Nancy enjoyed bowling, the beach and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Snelling.

Survivors are her daughter, Sherry Richardson (Michael) of Roswell; son, David Peet (Tammy) of Lawrenceville; grandson, Tony Richardson (Lacie) of Tucker; granddaughters, Carrie Marcus (Logan) of Los Angeles, Calif., Nancy Guillory (David) of Buford, Jessica Dillard (Zack) of Atlanta and Stephanie Peet of Atlanta; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Snelling were held Saturday, October 10, 2015 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Chaplain Rex Allen officiating. Interment in the McDonough City Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home, McDonough,, 770-914-8833.

Carl William Jones, III
Carl William Jones, III (Bill Jones), passed away on Tuesday, October 6 at Henry Medical Center. He would have been 51 years old this coming October 11.

He is the son of Mary Jane Owen of McDonough and the late Carl William Jones, Jr. He is survived by his son, William (Will) Robert Jones; sister, Louann Jones; aunt, Elizabeth Owen Strawn.

A service was held at McDonough Presbyterian Church on Sunday, October 11, 2015 with Rev. Dr. Rachael Knoll officiating.
