The group recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Mason Goolsby of Woodland High School.

Goolsby, who graduated as valedictorian May 29, says she is grateful for the scholarship as she prepares to begin at the University of Georgia’s College of Agriculture in the fall.

“It just helps me stand out to the College of Ag as an entering freshman,” she says.

The scholarship is for a senior pursuing a degree in agriculture or a related field, says Judy Coker, publicity chair for the Master Gardeners.

Coker praised Goolsby’s accomplishments in and out of the classroom.

“She currently has a 4.64 GPA on a 4.0 scale,” says Coker. “She also has an excellent resume of community service, leadership, references and has worked very hard to achieve this success.”

Coker says the award was raised this year from $500 to $1,000 to generate more interest.

“We will continue to offer the scholarship next year and are trying to make the students aware this is available,” says Coker.
