Let’s Move presentation to be held June 9
Let’s Move! A presentation for parents and children 5 - 13 years in age will be held Tuesday, June 9 from 11a.m. until noon at the McDonough Housing Authority. Let’s Move! a nationwide effort to solve the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation. Obesity threatens the health of one out of three American children. The national campaign was launched by First Lady Michelle Obama in 2010. The presentation will focus on a healthy eating/ active lifestyle. There will also be a drawing for a bicycle and other prizes.
During the summer months children can develop unhealthy behaviors and become inactive which can lead to weight gain. It is very important children/youth be active and eat healthy during their summer break from school. They must keep active by finding activities at summer day camps, city summer programs, Boys /Girls Club, YMCA, and church camps. There are activities they can do around the house each day for one hour. The presentation will also tell children/ youth how they can earn The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) with President Obama’s signature. This award is in recognition of commitment to maintaining a regular physically active lifestyle by participating in physical activity and sports.
Camp Faith/Pine Mountain Enrichment Services, Inc. joined partnership with the Let’s Move! Campaign in 2010, and has held presentations for children/parents in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. “Childhood obesity is a problem in many southern states. We must share ways to improve eating and drinking habits plus more physical activities with children and parents,” said Minister Bernard Johnson, organizer/director of Camp Faith
