May Turner Engeman
May Turner Engeman, age 89, of McDonough, GA died Monday, April 6, 2015. She was born in McDonough, GA to the late Charles Whitfield Turner and May Russell Turner. Mrs. Engeman was a 1942 graduate of McDonough High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Agnes Scott College in 1947. She also attended Agricultural school at Auburn University. May was a lifetime member of McDonough Presbyterian Church, and a Girl Scout leader for many years. Returning to McDonough after college, May worked for her father at Turner Fertilizer Company and served as President from 1962 until 1981. From 1981 to 1985 she was employed by Simmons Manufacturing Company. She then retired to Sarasota, FL to pursue her love of saltwater fishing. Mrs. Engeman is survived by her children, Robert (Bob) F. Engeman, Jr.(Paula), McDonough, GA, Richard W. Engeman (Kathi), Cordele, GA, and Caroline Engeman Moss (Jody), Westmoreland, TN; grandchildren, Heather Engeman Smith (Kevin), Springfield, TN, Robert F. Engeman, III, Atlanta, GA, Katherine May Moss, Westmoreland, TN, and Richard Allen Engeman, Cordele, GA; great-grandchildren, Jordon and Brayden Smith, Springfield, TN, and her older sister, Dr. & Mrs. William B. Fackler (Marjorie), LaGrange, GA. May was formerly married to Robert F. Engeman, Sr. for 32 years.

Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Rachael Knoll, Chaplain Jim Weathers and Rev. James Miller officiating. Wallace Winburn Hawkins
Mr. Wallace Winburn Hawkins, age 89, of McDonough, GA passed away April 11, 2015. Mr. Hawkins was born in Rutledge, GA the son of the late Clara Teagle Hawkins and Wiley Winburn Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a member of First Baptist Church of McDonough and the Bob Chick Sunday School Class. He was a mail carrier for the US Postal System for 35 years and for the majority of that time was a carrier for what used to be Route 1 in the McDonough area where he enjoyed serving and getting to know the people on his route. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII and was discharged as a motor machinist Third Class in 1946. He was a member of the Madison Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post 55. Mr. Hawkins was also an Explorer Scout Leader of Post 62. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known for his quiet demeanor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Juanita Hawkins in January 2015; siblings, Lois Hawkins, Ruth Cargile and Teagle Hawkins.

Survivors are his sons, Billy Hawkins of Decatur and Roger Hawkins of McDonough; sister, Ethel Dooley of Madison and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara Ann Godfrey Bowen
Mrs. Barbara Ann Godfrey Bowen, age 78, of Stockbridge, GA passed away April 11, 2015. Barbara was born in Athens, GA the daughter of the late Clara Myrtle Anderson Godfrey and Ezra Godfrey. Barbara enjoyed spending time with family and friends; she was a loving Christian woman who enjoyed reading and studying her Bible, flowers, fishing and her dog “Amy.” She was preceded in death by 9 siblings; and a son, Kenneth Slaughter.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William O. Bowen of Stockbridge; children, Terrie Maloof of Loganville and Donnie Slaughter of CA; stepchildren, Corwin Bowen (Sheila) of IL, Gwen Wilkerson (Jerry) of Lay Lake, AL, and Gary Bowen of San Antonio, TX; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Mentzel of Tampa, FL; sister-in-law; Jeannette B. Reagan of Hampton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Faye Upchurch Hollingsworth Carmichael
Faye Upchurch Hollingsworth Carmichael, age 90, of McDonough, GA died Friday, April 10, 2015. She was born in McDonough, GA to the late Arthur J. and Nora Bowden Upchurch. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in McDonough. Mrs. Carmichael worked for Planters Warehouse for over 30 years, and in her retirement was an avid traveler.

Mrs. Carmichael is survived by daughters, Gail Hollingsworth Owens of Tyrone and Rebecca Hollingsworth (Mal) Fort of Cleveland; brother, A. J. (Birgetta) Upchurch, Jr. of McDonough; sister, Janie McGarity of McDonough; 3 grandchildren, Jamie Owens Gray, Patricia Roberts Simpkins and Corey Crumbley; 5 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Rush and Greg McGaha officiating. Mrs. Carmichael will lie in state from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery.
