More than two dozen vendors have signed up to be on hand at the first-ever Craft Bazaar and Vendor Fair hosted by the Happy Hearts group at Stockbridge First United Methodist Church.

The event is Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall at the rear of the property at 4863 North Henry Blvd. Plenty of parking is available and the entire event is indoors, meaning a day of rain will not affect the festivities.

Among the items and opportunities touted to be available at the fair are beaded crafts, birdhouses, breads, calendars, card making, children's clothes, collegiate, embroidery, jams/jellies, jewelry, kitchen crafts, ornaments, painting, pottery, spa products, quilts, wreaths, and retail vendors.

Happy Hearts is a group of adults of all ages at the church who support various mission works at home and abroad.

Their regular efforts include a weekly backpack ministry for local children - loading up backpacks with food items that students in the free lunch program at nearby public schools can take home over the weekend.

The group also provides clothing and undergarments for kids at back-to-school time in conjunction with United Methodist Women.

Happy Hearts has supported several initiatives in Kenya and currently sponsors a young lady named Mary, supporting her financially every month to assist with her education and other basic needs.

The group also lends a hand right in its own congregation, sponsoring outings for senior citizens and others on fixed incomes who otherwise would be unable to participate.

The is the first major fundraiser the Happy Hearts have undertaken, according to Kappy Morris, the organization’s vice president and event coordinator. She and others have been scouring the countryside since last fall looking for potential vendors, visiting other fairs and festivals as well as other churches in the region.

That work appears to have paid off, with 28 vendors signing up to participate, only three or four of which are from their own church.

The Happy Hearts host a lunch the first Wednesday of every month, where for only $6 you can get a good-sized meal prepared by the group on the premises. All net proceeds go into the Happy Hearts treasury to support its projects, and the lunch is open to the community as long as you notify the church 48 hours ahead of time so there is enough food.
