The third annual Miss Locust Grove Pageant is scheduled for April 18 at 4 p.m., in the auditorium at City Hall, 3644 Ga. Highway 42. The cost to register for the pageant is $75, plus an optional $10 to compete for the title of Miss Photogenic. The deadline to sign up is April 13.

Destiny Keck of Locust Grove is the organizer of pageant, which is sponsored by the Main Street Program. She hopes to raise at least $2,500 through the event, with all funds going toward building a playground in the city’s downtown historical district.

“I just thought it would be something good for girls to do to get dressed up and be pretty and to raise money at the same time,” she says.

The pageant will feature seven title divisions, ranging in age from zero to 18 years old, as well as a special-needs title division for all ages. Contestants in evening gowns, says Keck, will be judged on a combination of beauty and confidence.

“We’re going to have two Grand Supremes this year – one from zero to nine years old, and one from ages 10 to 18. So, we’ll have 10 queens crowned in all.”

Keck, in addition to overseeing this year’s pageant, is a veteran of such events herself. She participated in pageants as a little girl and says such activities provide a way for young ladies to take on a more active role in the Locust Grove community, and that the winners will be able to participate in various events the city hosts throughout the year.
