Gene Edwin Morris, Sr.

Gene Edwin Morris, Sr., age 81, of McDonough, GA died Thursday, March 19, 2015. He was born in McDonough, GA to the late George Benjamin and Sarah White Morris. Gene was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Childers and Billy Morris. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and he retired from Equifax after 30 years. Gene served on the Farm Bureau Board and the Henry General Hospital Board. He was a member of the Henry County Cattleman's Association and the Henry County Tax Equalization Board. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Gene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ouida Morris, McDonough, GA; children, Gene (Dody) Morris, Jr., McDonough, GA, John Morris, McDonough, GA, Jody Morris, Atlanta, GA; siblings, Ben Morris, Smyrna, GA, George Morris, Johns Creek, GA, and Saranell Lewis, McDonough, GA; grandchildren, G. Edwin Morris, III, Branham Morris, and Elizabeth Morris.

Betty Jean Chafin Walker

Mrs. Betty Jean Chafin Walker, age 85, of McDonough, GA passed away March 22, 2015. Mrs. Walker was born in Fulton County, the daughter of the late Lillian Owen Chafin and James Troy Chafin Sr. Mrs. Walker was a member of First Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She taught school at Henry County High School for 21 years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing bridge and shopping. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carmen Bass; brothers, James Troy Chafin Jr. and Clinton Chafin.

Survivors are her husband of 64 plus years, A. W. “Buddy” Walker of McDonough; children and their spouses, Joan and Dickie Bass of McDonough, Pam and Sam Johnson of McDonough and Andy and Julie Walker of Lavonia; 7 beautiful grandchildren, and 10 precious great grandchildren; brother, Edgar Owen Chafin “Boochie” of McDonough; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at First Baptist Church in McDonough with Dr. Charles Thomas officiating. Interment Kelly Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Jerry McCarrey

Jerry “Mac” McCarrey, age 67, of McDonough, GA died Thursday, March 19, 2015. He was born in Centralia, Ill to the late Dean Myron and Bertha Elizabeth Bierman McCarrey. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and he retired from law enforcement with over 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Irene McCarrey and brother Robert Dean McCarrey.

Mr. McCarrey is survived by his siblings, Kenneth McCarrey, Fayetteville, GA, Becky (Robert “Mook”) Marcum, Centralia, IL, Darlene Nollman, Centralia, IL; granddaughters, Jordan Brown, McDonough, GA, Kelsey Brown, McDonough, GA; niece, Ashlee Koontz, Fayetteville, GA; nephews, Todd McCarrey, York, PA, Kevin McCarrey, Red Lion, PA, Duane Nollman, Centralia, IL, Darren Nollman, Centralia, IL; step-daughter, Ashley (Mich-ael) Bednarz, McDonough, GA; and his life partner, Christie Hayes, McDonough, GA.

Gerald F. Schroeter

Gerald F. Schroeter, age 71, of Ellenwood, GA, went to be with the Lord onMarch 17, 2015, after a prolonged illness. He was born on January 6, 1944 in Aliance, Ohio and was raised in Tampa, Florida, graduating from Chamberlain High School in 1962. He served his country for 2 years active duty in the Navy after high school prior to being hired by Southern Bell in Atlanta where he worked for 38 1/2 years. Always up for a challenge, Gerald and Betsy were instrumental in organizing and starting the soccer association in Henry County in the late 1980s and 1990s. While being a telephone employee was his vocation, his passion was playing Santa to hundreds of children and families for over 20 years. Nothing pleased him more than keeping the spirit of Christmas alive in the hearts of his friends and family and the children with whom he visited each year. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Richard Schroeter and Bernyce Graham Hopkins, a brother, Richard Melvin Schroeter, and an infant sister.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Betsy (Dawn) Schroeter, a son, Ryan Abrahams, Sr. (Shelley), of Jenkinsburg, GA; a son, Lt. Adam A. Schroeter (Dara), currently stationed in Cairo, Egypt; a daughter, Sara Reagan (Steve), of Tucson, AZ; and a daughter, Anna Babbitt (Matt), of Colorado Springs, CO; and 5 grandchildren: Ryan Abrahams, Jr., Rain Abrahams, Sammy Schroeter, Steven Reagan Jr., and Jase Babbitt.

Gerald’s remains were cremated and a memorial service is being planned in early April at First Christian Church of Stockbridge.
