Boy Scout troop 1168 yard sale /fundraiser

  Saturday, March 6 from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Boy Scout troop 1168 will hold a yard sale at Landing Church of God, 1640 Hwy. 42 N. Healthy Hearts Dance Class Thursday

  The City of McDonough’s Wellness Program kicks off this week with dance classes in the historic Chafin Building on the McDonough Square. The beginner classes, taught by dance instructor Sara Ann Hightower, will be held every Thursday in March at 7:00 p.m., starting March 4.

 

Lunch and Learn, Tuesday, March 9

  Squirrels in the attic, snakes under the porch and armadillo’s digging up the front yard?  Steve Nail of Animal Control Experts will be at the Extension Office at 97 Lake Dow Rd., McDonough on Tuesday March 9 to discuss nuisance wildlife control. The class starts at 12 noon so bring your lunch and come join in.

 

Mr. & Miss. Special Henry

  Applications are now being accepted for the 8th annual Mr. and Miss Special Henry County Pageant, sponsored by People First of Henry County. The Pageant is Saturday, July 10 at the Henry County Performing Arts Center. For more info, go to the People First website at www.peoplefirstofhenrycounty.org or call 770-946-3673.

 

Blood Drive

 The McDonough Presbyterian Church will sponsor its next American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday March 15th at the Church at 427 McGarity Rd., McDonough from 2 until 7PM. Blood supplies are at a critical level this time of the year and donors are encouraged to give.  Heritage Baptist Church will be hosting a Free Men's Wild Game Dinner on Saturday, March 6 at 6 p.m. Over 50 great door prizes will be given away. Primos vendors will also be present. An encouraging message will be preached by Scott Sanders. You are welcome to bring your own wild game dish for everyone to enjoy. For more information, please call the church at 770-320-7771. Full Tilt Riders

 Full Tilt Riders Motorcycle Club, representing the McDonough area, meet monthly. The group focuses on rides to raise money for local charities. In Between Fling

 Henry County Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Section is accepting applications for the upcoming Craft/Community /Business Fling to benefit Special Olympics. The event will be held at the Jason Harper Event Center at Heritage Park on Lake Dow Road on April 17, beginning at 9 a.m. Spaces are $35 and are reserved as applications are received. Youth Step Show

 The Henry County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host the fifth annual Youth Step Show on Saturday, March 13, at 6 p.m. at Dutchtown High School, 149 Mitchell Road, Hampton.

 

Free Diabetes Screening

 Henry Medical Center will sponsor a free Diabetes Awareness Screening on Thursday, March 18 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Wal-Mart in McDonough. During the diabetes screening, participants will receive a blood glucose screening, symptoms education and prevention information. For more information about this event, please call Henry Medical Center’s Community Education Department at 678-604-1040. No registration is required for this event. Walk-ins are welcome.

 

Celtic Festival

 The Cochran Public Library in Stockbridge will be hosting their Third Annual Celtic Festival on Saturday, March 13 from 1 - 4 p.m. The Festival will feature Celtic Fiddler Moria Nelligan; Celtic Bard, Mrs. Henry Frantz; Comedy with Tushar Singh; Bagpipes by Mr. Henry Frantz; Model, Allison Bryant; and various Celtic artifacts. Mr. and Miss. Special Henry

 Applications are now being accepted for the 8th annual Mr. and Miss Special Henry County Pageant sponsored by People First of Henry County. The Pageant is Saturday, July 10 at the Henry County Performing Arts Center. Participants must be 13 years old by July 10 to participate and their are two age categories, Teens ages 13-19 and Adults, ages 20 and up. This pageant is for young people who are mentally and/or physically challenged and qualify for special education in school. The pageant is open to Henry, Clayton, Butts, Rockdale, Fayette, and Spalding Counties. Applications are available on the People First website at www.peoplefirstofhenrycounty.org or call 770-946-3673 to have an application mailed to you. Application deadline is April 15 and the first 25 applications received in each category will be accepted.

 

Book Sale for Haven House

 There will be a book sale to benefit Haven House on Thursday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Blessings Thrift Store for Haven House, 86 Work Camp Rd., McDonough, (Behind Henry Co. Animal Shelter, off Phillips Drive). 770-228-6503 All books for sale from 10 cents to $2.00, including hardbacks.

 

Music and Memories III

 The Locust Grove Heritage Foundation presents Music and Memories III on March 6 at 7 p.m. at the historic Locust Grove Baptist Church on Cleveland Street. The program will feature The Shoal Creek Baptist Church Men's Quartet and Buck Newton, Blues Guitarist, along with several other local entertainers interspersed with memories of those who grew up in Locust Grove. Tickets are $12 for open seating and $11 for members. Tickets can be purchased at Locust Grove City Hall, Warren Holder Equipment and Zebra House. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

 

Spring Fashion Parade

 Henry Medical Center’s Auxiliary invites the community to its “Spring Fashion Parade” Luncheon & Fashion Show fundraising event on Saturday, March 13 at 11:30 a.m. at McDonough Christian Church on Jonesboro Road. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the hospital Gift Gallery located in the South Tower through Saturday March 6. Affairs by Pinehurst Tea Room will cater the “Spring Fashion Parade.” JCPenney will outfit models and Damon’s Design Team will provide hairstylists for the fashion show.
