Ruby Clark Higginbotham
Ruby Clark Higginbotham, age 98, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Stockbridge, GA, two days short of her 99th birthday on July 29. Mrs. Higginbotham was a loving mother and gifted educator, inspiring many generations of children including her own to excel beyond their dreams. She was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where she graduated from McDonogh #35 High School and subsequently received a B.A. in Education from Xavier University of New Orleans. Mrs. Higginbotham then began an exceptional teaching career that spanned over 40 years, including 34 years with the New Orleans Public School System, most of those years at McDonogh #6 Elementary School. She completed her teaching career at Blessed Sacrament School in uptown New Orleans. In addition to her students, she also inspired her family as a devoted wife and mother of three daughters. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the TNT Bridge Club for over 50 years. Mrs. Higginbotham was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Luther Higginbotham of New Orleans, LA, formerly a Tuskegee Airman in World War II. Both were celebrated teachers in their careers.
Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are daughters, Dr. Edith Higginbotham of Henderson, Nevada, Cecelia Higginbotham of Leesville, LA, Dr. Eve Higginbotham-Williams and husband Dr. Frank Williams of McDonough, GA and Philadelphia, PA; cousin, Abner J. Claude, Jr. of Erwinville, LA; granddaughter, Dr. Lenora Ann Higginbotham of Baltimore, MD; and numerous friends and extended family.
Visitation was held Tuesday, August 5 followed by Mass at St. Stephen’s Church in New Orleans. Interment at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum on Wednesday, August 6. Edwin (Ted) Olsen, age 84, of McDonough, GA died Wednes-day, July 23, 2014. He was born on November 24, 1929 in Miami, FL to the late Trygve Olsen and Edith Thomas Olsen. Ted grew up in Miami, FL and moved to Atlanta in 1972 where he worked as Service Manager with Central Chevrolet in Buckhead, GA. Later he worked with Goldsmith Chevrolet and Andy Lewis Chevrolet before retirement.
Ted is survived by his wife of 27 years, Helen Smith Olsen; sister, Suzanne Sweatt; children: Robin (Jim) Brackett, Laurie (Tony) Pless, Ted, Jr.(Susan) Olsen, Janice (Steve) Tucker, Beth Stanley, Paul Bomford; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 26 at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Chaplain Don Daly officiating. Interment followed at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Dorothy Moore Miller
Dorothy “Dot” Moore Miller, age 85, of McDonough, GA died Saturday, July 26, 2014. She was born in Ola, GA to the late Oscar and Ossie Moore. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Buddy, Vernon, and Frankie Moore.
Dorothy is survived by her children: William Edward (Nancy) Miller, Jr, McDonough, GA; Debbie Miller, Stockbridge, GA; Johnny (Gayle) Miller, McDonough, GA; grandchildren: Jude Miller Nolen, McDonough, GA; William Edward “Trey” (Stephanie) Miller, McDonough, GA; Cody (Jennifer Hackney) Miller, Kennasaw, GA; Christy (Robert) Sims, McDonough, GA; sister: Peggy (Byron) Patterson; sister-in-law: Wincie Moore; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jacqueline Morgan Clayton
Jacqueline Morgan Clayton of Ola/Jackson passed away on July 2, 2014 after being ill over several months and having surgery just days prior to her passing. She was a caregiver in both her personal and professional life - caring for her family, caring for the elderly and a cat lover - so much so that she cared for many strays. She was a wonderful mother to us and a friend to all and is deeply loved and will truly be missed. Jacqueline was the widow of Ronald Clayton, who had passed on June 30, 2009 due to cancer. Both were from Collinsville, AL.
Survivors include their 3 children, Ronald James Clayton, Dennis Clayton and Rebecca Clayton-Garrett as well as 7 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Sardis Baptist Church on Saturday, August 2 at 2 p.m. You may send flowers to Sardis for her service there or to the home of her son, Ronald James Clayton at 4284 U.S. Hwy 11, Collinsville, AL 35961 for her graveside service that will be held on August 9, at 2 p.m. With no service provided in Georgia in 2009 for Ronald Clayton, anyone who wishes to attend for him is also welcome. Jewel VanHouten Callihan
Mrs. Jewel VanHouten Callihan, age 78, of Stockbridge, died on Saturday July 26, 2014 at the Sacred Journey Hospice Center in McDonough. Mrs. Callihan was born in Milan, GA to the late Betsie Knight. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Stockbridge.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Callihan of Stockbridge; daughters, Sandy (David) Marchant of Milan GA; and Neva Rebecca (Mike) Mesures of Sanford FL; Patty Glenny of Loganville GA; and Sharon (Clyde) Cauthen of Conyers GA; sons Gary (Bobbi) VanHouten of Winter Garden FL; Brian (Brandy) VanHouten of Eastman GA; Joseph Callihan Jr. of Aiken SC; and Greg (Tricia) Callihan of Conyers GA. 15 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren also survive.

James W. Clark, Jr.
James W. (Jimmy) Clark, Jr., age 87, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2014. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy and owned and operated his own store for over 30 years in Stockbridge, Georgia. Jimmy loved sports, particularly golf, fishing and rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs. James was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. Clark, Sr. and Ethel F. Clark; his sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Perry G. Foster all of Stockbridge, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betsy; and his children, Pamela Clark of Jacksonville, FL, James W. Clark, III of Norcross, GA and Valerie (Paul) Munson of Suwanee, GA. He also leaves behind granddaughters, Samantha (Joel) Frost of Braselton, GA, Elizabeth Munson of Atlanta, GA and great-granddaughters, Ella Grace and Kinsley Frost. James is also survived by his brother, William F. (Dana) Clark; a niece, Ellie (Bobby) Love of Stockbridge, GA and two nephews, Chris (Cindy) and Dave Clark.
A memorial service will be held in the fall with inurnment in Stockbridge Cemetery.
