  Henry County As It Was


  Henry County has been growing so much lately that some places are becoming unrecognizable. In an effort to preserve some of the history of our community, The Times is displaying photos of Henry County from the past. If you can name the persons or place shown above, write us at and tell us about it. In the next edition, we’ll reveal the location of the picture and notes readers send us.   A special Thank You to Jack Foster for bringing this photo to us. He tells us that this photo is from the late 1940’s and shows the third and fourth grade at the old Locust Grove School which was in the municipal building. The teacher in the back is Mrs. Childs. Those identified are Tommy McClendon, Wallace McWhorters, Harold Rape, Betty Henley, Charlie James, Mary Lou Seabolt,  Jimmy Hammock, Frances Foster, Joan Cleveland, Adline Tollison, Marvina Taylor and Eddie Colvin.

  Thanks also to Gloria Garland who identified the following girls: her sister, Joanne Cleveland, Adlene Tolleson, Marvina Taylor, Eddie Colvin, Janie Singly, Willette Crumbley, Betty Henley, Mary Lou Seabolt, Jobelle Hammock, Francis Foster, Elizabeth Kuhn.
