Henry County ... As It Was

Henry County has been growing so much lately that some places are becoming unrecognizable. In an effort to preserve some of the history of our community, The Times is displaying photos of Henry County from the past. If you can name the persons or place shown above, write us at and tell us about it. In the next edition, we’ll reveal the location of the picture and notes readers send us. Photo courtesy of Henry/Clayton Genealogical Society. Visit the Genealogical Society at 71 Macon Street (in the Brown House) in McDonough Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last Week's Picture

A special thanks to Jack Foster for bringing this picture to us. It shows the Foster Clan from the area around Foster Drive, Jonesboro Road and Mt. Carmel Road. Back row l. to r.: Homer, Charles, Bob, Minnie, Sam Howard, Ward & Ray. Front row l. to r.: John, Grand Pa-Henry, Grand Ma, and Bill.

Wanda Foster from McDonough tells us that “this is a photo of her husband, Edwin (Ed) Foster’s great-grandfather Henry Pearson Foster, his wife Sarah Jane “Sallie” Phillips and their children. Their family was from Hampton. Standing from left: Homer, Charlie, Sam, Minnie, Bob, Howard, Ward, Roy. Sitting: John, Henry P., Sarah “Sallie” and Bill.” She also added “we have this same photo on our page and received it along with the names of those pictured from another Foster family member. My husband's grandfather, Henry Thomas Foster (Tom), son of Henry P. and Sallie was not present when this photo was taken around 1925. Fun to see it in the Henry County Times.”

Have a picture of Henry County as it was? Send it to us at or 35 Griffin Street, McDonough, GA. 30253. All pictures will be handled carefully and returned to owner.
