This week The Times took a trip with Chris and Maggie Schafer of McDonough to California. This photo was taken on Alcatrez Island with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. They drove a rental car from Los Angeles up the coast to San Francisco. In San Francisco at the Wharf Inn, which is within walking distance to Fisherman’s Wharf, they ate lunch at Boudin Bread Company. Lots of walking but a must trip for anyone. Next they visited Monterey Bay which they describe as “expensive but gorgeous.” They stayed two nights at The Green Gables Inn. They ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company which had cool memorabilia and their server asked trivia questions about the movie “Forrest Gump.” They went to the Monterey Bay aquarium and ate at The Fish Hopper after touring the aquarium. “What we found at every place we went to in Monterey and almost everywhere in CA was the customer service. It was the best.” They booked a whale watch tour but it was canceled because of swells and wind. So instead they left from Fishermans Wharf for a sailboat ride around the bay. After leaving Monterey they drove to Redding to visit Chris’s sister who lives in French Gulch. Maggie says “It is a cool little town. It has only 300 people but is very cute.”
