Yellow Pollen Street Festival
this weekend

By Monroe Roark
Times Correspondent

Downtown Hampton will be hopping this weekend as locals and visitors alike gather for the sixth annual Yellow Pollen Street Festival, scheduled for Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is hosted by Hampton’s Downtown Development Authority and Main Street program.

More than 2,500 visitors are expected for what organizers are calling “Hampton’s premiere event,” which will feature food, crafts, entertainment and informational activities.

As of Tuesday morning, 108 vendors were confirmed for the event, which is the largest group yet as the festival continues to grow every year. They will line East Main and West Main streets in downtown Hampton.

One of the featured guests is Tom Bonnell, “beekeeper extraordinaire,” who is making a return appearance at the festival. The LifeSouth Bloodmobile will be on hand as well as a pace car from Atlanta Motor Speedway, among other favorites.

A stage will be set up for various local musical acts. Madelyn Patterson, a Jackson native with family ties to Hampton who made it to Hollywood on this season’s edition of “American Idol,” will be one of the featured performers.

Other attractions planned for the festival include bungee jumping, a 28-foot-high rock climbing wall, pony rides, and various activities for the entire family.

Visitors coming into town for the event Saturday can park at either end of Main Street for easy access.
