Henry County’s Cooking with
the Stockbridge Garden Club

By Mickie Jackson

The Stockbridge Garden Club was organized in 1935 in a small house on old Atlanta Road. Over the years their community work has included landscaping for the Stockbridge City Cemetery and other city properties, donating granite markers to the city, and providing flowers to local public buildings. Ongoing projects are many and varied such as making lap blankets for seniors and developing gardens.

The Stockbridge Garden Club recently toured the Governor’s Mansion in Atlanta. The group was welcomed by First Lady Sandra Deal and went on to view the beautifully decorated tree, stairway decorations, several rooms, plus the basement. They saw that fruits and cotton were used in bounty for floral pieces as well as tree ornaments.                                 Special photo

Beverly Dillard, club president, has been a member for 17 years and said that she is blessed by the friendships she has made over the years.

“We have a wonderful group of women that come together once a month to enjoy each others’ company, share what is going on in our lives and what we can do to help our community to be a better place,” said Dillard.

Monthly meetings take place every third Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the clubhouse located on Club Drive in Stockbridge. Some of the meetings have speakers and some are trips to historic sites and gardens around the state. Anyone interested in membership or other information on the Stockbridge Garden Club can contact Beverly Dillard at 770-957-2413 or Kappy Morris, event coordinator, at 770-402-7930.
